The Royal Danish Ballet is looking for two Rehearsal Directors and teachers with a background as an active dancer, good insight into the Bournonville tradition and with a strong sense of a professional dancer’s development both in and outside of the studio. He/she should have a well-rounded knowledge and base in classical ballet techniques.
We are looking for a person with empathy and with an innovative approach to ballet training that can conduct daily classes as well as rehearse and coach with focus on soloists and principals.
The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills both in artistic matters with the artistic management as well as an inside understanding of general production matters, coordination and planning within a ballet company.
It is imperative that the applicant for this position must have a modern-day approach to the work environment and be of an adaptable nature.
The job As a Rehearsal Director you are a member of the Royal Danish Ballet’s artistic management team which consists of the Artistic Director and four Rehearsal Director s.
The team of Rehearsal Directors represents the Artistic Director in all instructor and casting related matters, and manages the allocation of instructor tasks. The team handles the daily planning of rehearsals in coordination with the ballet department’s planner.
You will instruct several ballet productions during the season. A core assignment is to be a teacher for the ballet company.
Qualifications, background and experience We expect that you enjoy working in a hectic and varied environment and can readily adapt to the changing working rhythms of a theatre.
Furthermore, we expect that you:
- Have a strong background as a ballet dancer
- Understand the composition and structure of a ballet company, and that you have knowledge of a wide ballet repertoire.
- Have experience in teaching and coaching ballet dancers, ideally supplemented with further educational qualifications within the field of ballet, especially the Bournonville tradition and classical dance.
- Can manage and follow up on conflicts and are solutions oriented.
- Are a good communicator and enjoy cooperation.
- Are enterprising but know how to listen before taking decisions.
- Have a good standard of English.

- Supplemented educational qualifications within the field of management and leadership.
Terms of employment The position is a full time position. Evening and weekend work hours form an integral part of the position.
Pay and conditions to be determined in accordance with relevant agreements, by individual contract or based on a fixed-term contract.
The place of employment will be the Royal Danish Theatre, the Royal Danish Ballet located in central Copenhagen. The position refers to Artistic Director of the ballet company.
Preferred start date is as soon as possible.
