We are looking for a highly motivated, organised, and independent academic coordinator (Senior Consultant/Specialkonsulent) to join the Copenhagen Health Complexity Center at the University of Copenhagen from 15 April 2025.
About the Center The Copenhagen Health Complexity Center is dedicated to advancing the understanding and management of complex public health challenges, particularly focusing on the health of young adults, health inequality, theoretical and methodological development in complexity science, and outreach and public dissemination concerning complexity in public health. We are a group of epidemiologists, data scientists, systems scientists, bioinformaticians, and qualitative researchers in related fields who are collaborating on interdisciplinary projects with the shared ambition of using a complex-systems approach to positively impact society. About the Department The Department of Public Health provides the scientific foundation for researchers and educators who aim to improve public health, both nationally and globally, and to create greater insight into the links between health, the individual, and society as well as the ethical, equity, and political implications. This is achieved through research, education, and engagement with stakeholders and the general public along with a broad multidisciplinary research agenda that addresses most aspects of public health at a high international level. About the position As the Center’s academic coordinator, you will have several important tasks, including:
• Act as the first point of contact for any questions and issues related to the daily operations and management of the Center, and ensure a secure framework for the Center’s physical and mental work environment in close collaboration with the Center’s director.
• Act as personal assistant to the Center’s director, arranging meetings and organising calendar appointments as well as handling external inquiries sent to the director about the Center and its research aims.
• Support the Center’s director and vice director in decisions regarding the Center’s scientific development. The academic coordinator will provide support and informed feedback to qualify management decisions and to facilitate the implementation of such decisions.
• Ensure that quarterly/annual reports meet the requirements of funding agencies, and support the Center director and vice director with a regular overview of plans, resources, and finances.
• Prepare an annual status report of the Center’s activities and coordinate the collaboration with funding agencies, the center’s steering committee, and its scientific advisory board. Reports, presentations, and other communications should reflect the Center’s core values.
• Liaise between the Center director and UCPH Administration as well as other relevant actors at the university.
• Act as a team leader and coordinate the work of non-scientific employees in the Center (i.e., administrative staff and student assistants) and ensure this group’s competence development and well-being.
• Assist the Center leadership in the recruitment and onboarding of both research staff, international fellows, and non-scientific employees.
• Plan and coordinate workshops, events, and meetings for the Center’s researchers as well as meetings for the Center’s leadership; e.g., steering committee meetings, scientific advisory board meetings, outreach meetings with external partners and collaborators, etc.
• Assist in arranging travel for the Center’s leadership as well as guest researchers and visiting collaborators.
• Ensure that the Center is compliant with GDPR and data-security regulations.
Required professional qualifications • A relevant Master’s-level academic degree
• Experience with coordinating health research and managing a research center
• Experience working in a flexible and experimental academic environment, and supporting both senior leadership and early-career researchers
• Experience in international communications, publishing, and public engagement with partners from public, private, and civil-society sectors
• Experience with administrative work specifically related to public-health research and teaching at the university level
• Knowledge of public-health research and methodology using a complex-systems approach
• Familiarity with budgets and basic financial accounting as well as data management and compliance with GDPR regulations
• Fluency in Danish and English (both spoken and written)
Personal skills • Competence in managing and coordinating complicated processes that may involve engaging both Danish and international stakeholders with different interests/goals
• Excel at networking and building collaborative relationships with academics, administrators, civil society, and the general public
• Enjoy working independently but also thrive on teamwork and cooperation to optimise the work environment – are committed to facilitating respect, inclusivity, and connectedness
• Able to nurture creativity, innovation, and advanced thinking about health complexity to support the Center’s goals in both a Danish and international context
Place of employment The place of employment is at the Department of Public Health, Øster Farimagsgade 5, 1353 Copenhagen K., close to Nørreport station.
Terms of employment The position is full time (37 hours per week). Employment will be as senior consultant in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experience and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to the employee’s pension fund.
