The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy at SDU invites applications for an Academic Technical Staff position. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of bioprinting and microfabrication, specifically within the Bioprinting and Fabrication facility (BioFab), which houses the state-of-the-art Nanoscribe Quantum X Shape two-photon polymerization laser printer.
Starting date: 1 May or soon as possible hereafter
Duration: 3 years with the possibility for 1 year extension
About the Role
As successful candidate, you will play a crucial role in advancing 3D printing and bioprinting research at SDU. You will optimise 3D printing parameters, assist researchers in developing cutting-edge applications, and maintain the BioFab facility.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Research Support
• Optimizing 3D printing and bioprinting conditions on the Nanoscribe Quantum X Shape.
• Developing of custom printing parameters for various scales and materials, ranging from sub-micron to micron-sized structures.
• Bioprinting of living cells, utilizing different bioprinting platforms.
• Exploring new 3D printing methodologies and bioprinting applications.
• Assisting the characterization of printed structures, leveraging advanced imaging techniques.
Facility & User Management
• Supporting and training internal and external users from multiple disciplines (Physics, Engineering, Biology, etc.).
• Ensuring optimal operation and maintenance of the BioFab facility.
• Contributing to technology development and knowledge transfer within SDU and beyond.
Interdisciplinary Research & Development
• Collaborating with SDU research groups and industry partners on projects on bioprinting, optics, and microfabrication.
• Assisting in preparing research publications, funding applications, and project reports.
• Exploring potential industry applications of bioprinting and 3D fabrication technologies.
What We Offer
The role comes with great responsibilities but offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge fabrication technologies, as well as a high level influence within an interdisciplinary research environment and the chance to collaborate on international research projects. A supportive and dynamic work environment at SDU’s PhyLife section operates at the intersection of physics, optics, bioimaging, and biology. In addition we offer career development opportunities, including training, conference participation, and potential involvement in research publications. Additionally, there is significant technology transfer potential, such as working on (bio)printing projects that could lead to commercial applications.
Qualifications & Experience
To apply, you should have:
• A PhD or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with wet lab techniques and maintaining experimental protocols.
• Good organizational skills, particularly in record-keeping and data management.
• Good communication and collaboration skills that allow you to interact with researchers from diverse backgrounds.
We will highly value documented expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Microfabrication techniques (including two-photon polymerisation (TPP).
• Bioprinting and handling of living cell cultures.
• 3D printing, particularly laser-based fabrication techniques.
• Cleanroom experience and knowledge of fabrication processes.
