We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor commencing April 18, 2025, and ending December 31, 2028.

Our research
The Gloriam group (www.gloriamgroup.org) develops databases and stand-alone software tools for drug design at G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) – the most common mediators of human signalling and drug responses. The group also heads the GPCR field’s main database, GPCRdb (http://www.GPCRdb.org) serving >50,000 users/year. The Gloriam group is very international, provides a strong and ambitious research environment and has recently published in e.g., Nature, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Chemical Biology and Nucleic Acids Research.

Your job
You will develop online data and tool resources serving the global research community. Depending on your interest, data curation and analysis, and sharing of educational material, may also be part of the work. You will work as part of a team of highly proficient and collaborative programmers. In your project, you will also engage with users to collect feedback from e.g., medicinal chemists, pharmacologists and structural biologists.

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of: 

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties 
  • research-based teaching 
  • sharing knowledge with society 
  • participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • A PhD related to bioinformatics, programming, or software/database development
  • Excellent programming skills, preferably in Python
  • Experience in dataset analysis and parsing
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience with software and/or database design
  • Web programming (e.g. HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and web frameworks (e.g. Flask/Django)
  • Code versioning with Github
  • Knowledge of molecular interaction between small molecule probes/drugs and protein targets
  • Experience of working with G protein-coupled receptors
  • International work or study experience

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen (www.drug.ku.dk). We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and computational facilities.

Terms of employment 
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position. The start date is April 18, 2025, and the end date is December 31, 2028.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or another relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,500 DKK/approx. 5,160 EUR (April 2024 level). 

Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not been tax liable to Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The further process 
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an unbiased assessor. Once the assessment work has been completed each applicant can comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
