As part of expanding the Centre for Visual Data Science, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for assistant and associate professor positions in Computer Science. We interpret the area of visual data science broadly. The candidate should have a background in visualization, visual analytics, human-computer interaction, computer vision, natural language processing, computational linguistics, digital humanities and/or related areas of research. Experience in infrastructure design for large projects and/or in developing machine learning solutions is a plus. In addition, the capability to successfully conduct research projects in interdisciplinary collaborations with domain experts in the humanities, social sciences, biology, defense or health is perceived as a fundamental skill for employment at the Centre for Visual Data Science.

Application process and appointment information
For permanent hirings at the associate professor level, applicants are expected to have demonstrated the ability to direct independent research projects and obtain external funding. An appointment as an assistant professor lasts for three years, after which a permanent position on associate professorship level is expected to be opened, for which the assistant professor can apply.
Further Information
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement: more English than Danish is used when teaching in computer science, and more than half of the research staff members in computer science have international backgrounds. Our new colleague will be offered Danish courses by the university. Applications from promising early-career talents are highly encouraged.

Based in Odense, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers an inclusive and international working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition for collaboration across departments and faculties, and with other educational institutions, municipalities, and industries. The degrees offered by the department include bachelor, master, and PhD in computer science, and a master degree in data science. Our assistant and associate professors have very reasonable teaching loads.
