The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor in computational genomics.
The position is based at the Functional Genomics & Metabolism Research Unit (FGM), a research section that currently hosts eight independent groups focusing on various aspects of functional genomics, metabolism, and cellular differentiation and plasticity. The section runs an in-house sequencing platform and applies a wide range of advanced sequencing-based technologies including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics. Target systems include cell culture models, advanced mouse models and clinical biopsies. In addition, the unit and the department have access to state-of-the-art and powerful computational resources through the SDU eScience Center, which provides both traditional and interactive HPC access. Thus, the research unit and department constitute an international, ambitious, highly dynamic, and well-equipped working environment.
FGM hosts two research centres, namely the Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS) supported by the Danish National Research Foundation and the Center for Adipocyte Signaling (ADIPOSIGN) supported by a major grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. ATLAS aims to obtain a systems-level, mechanistic, and cell-type-resolved understanding of human adipose and hepatic tissue plasticity in response to severe obesity and its reversal, and ADIPOSIGN aims to define and dissect the signaling networks across multiple scales that control adipocyte function as a function of metabolic health.
In addition to FGM, the department has additional internationally renowned research units, including Proteomics, Microbiology, and Bioimaging, it hosts the Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (DAMBIC) and has strategic research alliances with Odense University Hospital (OUH) and regional hospitals.
