Design and Analysis Large Marine Diesel Engines
Do you want to develop the next generation of combustion chamber parts for the biggest engines in the world running on environmentally friendly fuels?

Despite over a century of development, many processes in large diesel engines remain not thoroughly understood. To solve these mysteries and gain a better understanding of our engines, we at MAN Energy Solutions develop our own measurement equipment, instrumentation, and even sensors internally, constantly pushing the boundaries of what we can measure in the engines.

We are seeking a candidate who enjoys analyzing data to uncover hidden insights and has an internal drive to delve into complex datasets. The data you would work with is highly diverse and could be everything from custom-made measurements, manual measurements during overhauls, to high-frequency data collected over several months from sensors inside engine in the field.

You will receive tailor made training for the job meaning that both applicants with professional experience as well as fresh graduates will be considered.

You will play an important role in:
Our overall R&D focus is to reduce exhaust emissions and increase fuel efficiency. These overall tasks are challenging the design of the combustion chamber components in respect to function, structural integrity, and tribology performance.

As R&D Engineer in Combustion Chamber Parts, you will:

• Develop, analyze, and design components for large two-stroke diesel engines.
• Design, conduct, and analyze cylinder condition-related tests and service experiences. This involves limited travel activities.
• Correlate simulations with collected service experiences to improve both engine design and simulation techniques.
• Support above activities by maintaining relations with engine builders and component suppliers.

We imagine that you:

• Have relevant formal education in mathematics and / or mechanical engineering.
• Have experience applying machine learning methods to large datasets, preferably time series data.
• Are familiar with statistical analysis and modeling techniques.
• Have programming skills of python and C/C++.
• Have communication skills, both writing reports and presentation techniques.
• Have the drive and ability to conclude and communicate findings and an innovative mind-set.
• Have knowledge in the fields of tribology and/or FEM (an advantage but not required).
• Have an interest in mechanical design, taking a practical and target-oriented approach.
