Do you want to be a part of pioneering quantum computing in a world-class quantum ecosystem in the heart of Copenhagen? We are looking for crystal growth scientists who will be a part of building a next generation foundry for quantum processor manufacturing.

Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is a newly founded company, owned by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), aimed at developing next generation Quantum Computing Processor technologies.

Our mission is to establish a foundry capable of manufacturing quantum processor units using novel UHV methods that meet the extreme requirements for purity and precision that are needed to bring Quantum Computing to scale.

Join our team

We are a growing team of talented and diverse international professionals. We are located adjacent to the Niels Bohr Institute in the heart of Copenhagen.

We are part of a vibrant and growing Danish quantum ecosystem and collaborates closely with world-leading researchers in the NQCP quantum computing program that will facilitate and drive research and innovations at multiple levels – from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications.

The Job

We are looking for two experts in epitaxial crystal growth of quantum materials to join our innovative team. The roles involve developing ultra-pure and high-precision manufacturing processes for advanced materials. You will collaborate closely with the Tools Development Team, Platform Integration teams, and international partners on the development of innovative chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) processes.

The positions require strong cross-functional collaboration and teamwork, with the level of responsibility tailored to your experience and background. Joining our team offers opportunities for professional growth and collaboration with leading experts in different quantum computing platforms.

Depending on your experience, your main responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Develop and improve wafer-scale crystal growth methods. This may include high-quality low-dimensional material platforms, such as planar two-dimensional electron gases and/or scalable nanostructured crystal growth.
  • Support the manufacturing strategy and program roadmap for leading-edge quantum processor development.
  • Implement and improve standards for systems engineering and data logging/analysis concepts.
  • Perform tests, troubleshoot, and debug performance issues on tools and processes.
  • Establish in-line inspection for fast loop materials development.
  • Analyze requirements against existing capabilities and estimate risks and yields for new processes.

We strive to be a world leading foundry and offer competitive salaries along with the many benefits of living in Copenhagen – one of the most livable cities in the world. Benefits also include health insurance, pension scheme and a chance to contribute to a dynamic and innovative team.

We work closely with researchers and scientists to develop new technology but as a company we do not publish research. The level of the position and the scope of responsibilities will be based on experience and background.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

You may have several years of experience and want to work at the cutting edge of technology. You can see new solutions to problems and work with your colleagues to help Quantum Foundry Copenhagen become one of the leading quantum foundries in the world.

Your qualifications include:

  • Master or PhD in material science, chemical engineering, physics, or related.
  • +3 years' experience with materials synthesis, nanodevice fabrication, or system integration.
  • Preferably experience with Silicon-Germanium (SiGe) epitaxy methods or oxide material growth methods e.g. MBE and/or CVD. Additionally, basic knowledge about nanofabrication techniques including e-beam and optical lithography, dry and wet etching methods, evaporation, bonding, dicing, and packaging is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with system engineering concepts and proficiency in data tracking and analysis methods.

You are driven and self-motivated, keep focus on pace and outcome and inspire others with your constructive and collaborative workstyle.

Your colleagues would describe you as analytical, structured, and curious. You are a team-player and work to develop the best solutions with input from highly skilled colleagues in interdisciplinary fields.

The application process:

For more information, please contact Christina Nielsen, Process Engineer via e-mail: [email protected] or Claus Sørensen, CTO via email [email protected].

To apply, please send your:

  • Curriculum vitae, including a short cover letter
  • Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent)
  • Publication list (if relevant)
  • Examples of relevant work

We will hold interviews on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible, and no later than 2. October 2024.

Employment is contingent upon security clearance.

Who are we

Quantum Foundry Copenhagen is part of a vibrant quantum ecosystem and an international quantum computing programme, driving research and innovations from scalable quantum processor technologies to quantum-classical control and readout interfaces, and quantum algorithms and applications.

In close collaboration with the NNF Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, and international partners, we aim to pioneer chip-based fabrication and packaging methods for state-of-the-art quantum processors.
