CTO and Co-Founder to HealthTech start-up focusing on Menstrual Health


About Lulu Health:

Lulu Health is an early-stage HealthTech startup building the future of menstrual cycle tracking by combining hardware and software. With data and science, we are empowering women to understand their body and hormonal cycle. More than ever before, women are interested in tracking and understanding their menstrual cycle. Today, the majority of women are disconnected from their menstrual cycle due to modern’s life stress, birth prevention and lack of information. As an example, ~80% of women don’t know when their monthly ovulation occurs, the main event in their menstrual cycle and a key health indicator. This lack of awareness is a contributing factor to the growing problem of hormonal diseases (~60% of women suffers from hormonal imbalances) and infertility worldwide (~15% of women). We are on a mission to change this.


The team:

We are a small, ambitious, and diverse team that has been working on the startup for ∼1 year and we are now getting ready to raise pre-seed funding. The team consist of a Commercial Lead, Hardware Lead, Scientific Lead and Data Science Lead. While we already have a Hardware Lead (acting interim CTO) to lead our Hardware track, we are looking for an experienced Software Lead / CTO to take charge of the app development. The right candidate will over time take the overall responsibility for both software and hardware. We already have the user interface fully designed in Figma, but it can of course be optimised even further. You will have freedom to bring your own good ideas and preferences.

As our long-term CTO, you'll play a pivotal role in both the strategic and tactical aspects of product development, directly contributing to building and scaling the app. This is a unique opportunity for a technical leader who thrives in a startup environment and wants to roll up their sleeves and actively contribute to building a meaningful product. We are looking for someone who is willing to get their hands dirty beyond the strategic work, and that has excellent coding skills in an app context.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-On Development: Lead the app’s development, either by writing code yourself or outsource some of the development to a team abroad (we already have several offers from external partners). With your practical knowledge, it will be your responsibility to ensure best practices in both front-end and back-end development. You’ll be directly involved in building the app, ideally using Flutter for the front-end and Node.js (or similar) for the back-end. However, we know "the best language to code in is what the coder prefer", so you will have a say in what languages we end up using.

  • Tech Leadership: Guide the development process, ensuring that we adhere to timelines, deliverables, and high-quality standards. Act as the technical point of contact and make key decisions on architecture, tools, and stack.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with tech partners and relevant team members, including the hardware partners for integration, the design partners and other relevant parties to solve technical challenges.

  • Outsourcing Management: If needed, identify and manage external contractors or development teams for specific tasks, ensuring efficient use of resources within the constraints of our budget.

  • Quality Assurance: Oversee the testing process, ensuring the app is robust, secure, and scalable. Set up continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and establish a process for code reviews and testing.

  • Product Development: Contribute directly to the evolution of the product, making sure the app aligns with user needs and company goals. Suggest new features or improvements based on technical insights.

  • Technology Strategy: While hands-on, you'll also shape and adapt the technology strategy as the company scales, balancing short-term needs with long-term scalability.


Technical Skills & Qualifications:

  • Full-Stack Development: Expertise in building mobile apps - ideally with Flutter (or similar cross-platform mobile technologies) for front-end development and Node.js (or equivalent) for back-end services. However, we will listen to your preferences.

  • Hands-On Coding: You enjoy getting your hands dirty and coding alongside your team. You should feel comfortable in both front-end and back-end development and have a solid understanding of databases, APIs, and performance optimization.

  • Problem Solving: A natural problem solver who can balance technical constraints with business goals and innovate within those boundaries.

  • Agile Methodology: Comfortable with Agile processes and rapid iteration, adapting to shifting requirements while maintaining a focus on high-quality delivery.

  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Firebase, Google Cloud) and understanding of deployment processes.

  • (Nice to have) Experience in Startups: Previous experience in a startup environment where you’ve had to wear multiple hats—strategic, hands-on, and leadership.

  • (Nice to have) Experience working in healthcare or health tech.

  • (Nice to have) App security: Familiarity with app security standards, privacy regulations, and HIPAA compliance.

  • Emphatic leadership: You value collaboration and kindness in a work environment and is a good communicator.

  • Hands-on Leadership: You’re comfortable in the trenches, coding and problem-solving, but also possess the ability to lead, guide, and inspire a team.

  • Adaptability: A startup environment is dynamic, so you’ll need to be flexible and quick to adapt to new challenges.

  • Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and effectively collaborate with other departments.

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Passion for the product and its mission, with a drive to make an impact on healthcare and user lives.
