DanChurch Social/Kirkens Korshær is looking for temporary full-time and on-call employees for the emergency night shelter in Hellig Kors Kirke
For the tenth season in a row, Kirkens Korshær will open a winter night shelter for Copenhagen’s homeless community in Hellig Kors Kirke. The shelter is located at Kapelvej 38 in Nørrebro and is open Sunday-Friday from 22:00-07:00.
About us
Our doors are open to everyone, but most of our users are homeless migrants from around the world. We offer basic care, a place to sleep, and a sense of community. We aim to provide a space where people can feel safe to be themselves and seek shelter from the chaos of life on the street. We have space for 40 guests each night.
As a member of the staff, you will:
- Work with one other employee from 21:15-07:15 and be responsible for opening and running the shelter for the night. You may also have the support of a volunteer for the first 2-3 hours.
- Offer care and support to all guests and ensure a calm atmosphere for everyone in the shelter
- Work with and motivate volunteers to keep coming back. You are calm, positive and encouraging, and can lead volunteers who are working with homeless people for the first time
- Collaborate with other social services, both within Kirkens Korshær, and external partners, to provide the best possible service and support to our users. This could include referring them to other shelters, health clinics, or social offers in the city, and so on.
- Record relevant information from the shift in our online journal system
- Carry out practical tasks such as making coffee, tidying up the sleeping area, and so on
We offer:
- A challenging and interesting job in an NGO that supports homeless and socially vulnerable people across Denmark
- Dedicated colleagues and an opportunity for professional growth
- Monthly supervision
We expect that you:
- Meet everyone who comes through our doors with respect, no matter their circumstances
- Are reliable and responsible, and have a desire to work nights
- Are positive and energetic, and can maintain a calm atmosphere for everyone in the shelter
- Can set clear boundaries and are able to diffuse conflicts
- Have experience from other social, educational or NGO work
- Are open, respectful, and empathetic, and want to help homeless and socially vulnerable people from Denmark and other countries
- Are fluent in English. All other languages are a huge plus
- Can work according to Kirkens Korshær’s Christian and humanitarian values
