DanChurch Social/Kirkens Korshær is looking for new on-call employees (vikar) for Natcaféen Stengade 40

Natcaféen is a night service for the most socially and physically vulnerable people living on the streets of Copenhagen. We are located at Stengade 40 in Nørrebro and are open every night of the week from 22:00-07:00.

About us

Our goal is to alleviate the distress of homeless people who are living with acute and/or chronic mental and somatic illnesses, substance use issues, or are otherwise in need of urgent care and support. We offer basic care, food, clothing, showers, laundry service, and a bed for the night. We aim to provide a space where people can feel safe to be themselves and seek shelter from the chaos of life on the street.

Natcaféen is a targeted offer, which means that those who have been referred to us get first priority for a bed. These referrals come from hospitals, clinics, psychiatry, or other social offers around the city. Our users are both Danish and international, and we have beds for 21 guests each night.

As an on-call member of the night staff, you will:

• Cover shifts when full-time employees are not available
• Work with one other employee from 21:15-07:15 and be responsible for running Natcaféen for the night together with your colleague
• Offer care and support to all guests and ensure a peaceful, quiet night for everyone in the house
• Collaborate with your colleagues who work in the Morning Cafe in the same house through overlap meetings at the end of your shift. You will hand over important information regarding users and practical matters to the morning team so they can follow up effectively
• Collaborate with other social services, both within Kirkens Korshær, and external partners, to provide the best possible service and support to our users
• Record relevant information from the shift in our online journal system
• Carry out practical tasks such as serving food, making coffee, and doing laundry

We expect that you:

• Meet everyone who comes through our doors with respect, no matter their circumstances
• Are reliable and responsible, and have a desire to work nights
• Are positive and energetic, and can maintain a calm atmosphere for everyone in the house
• Can set clear boundaries and are able to diffuse conflicts
• Have experience from other social, educational or NGO work
• Are open, respectful, and empathetic, and want to help homeless and socially vulnerable people from Denmark and other countries
• Are fluent in English. All other languages are a huge plus
• Can work according to Kirkens Korshær’s Christian and humanitarian values

As this is a night position, you will receive supplementary pay (“tillæg”) for working night hours.
