Director for Nordic Cattle Genetic Evaluation

Foodjob Nordic is looking for a Director for Nordic Cattle Genetic Evaluation (NAV). NAVs is an organization with the mission to carry out joint breeding value evaluations for dairy and beef cattle in Finland, Sweden and Denmark to benefit Nordic farmers.

The position

With reference to the board you will be responsible for operational management, financial oversight, and the representation of the organization in key external relations. Together with the board you will also be responsible for the strategic leadership of the organization. The role includes the following functions and tasks:

 

Leadership and Governance:

• Develop and implement strategy and direction in collaboration with the board.
• Plan and organize board meetings in cooperation with the chairmanship.
• Represent NAV and the Nordic breeding community in relations with owners, customers, and stakeholders.
• Act as a representative for NAV’s owners on the European Genetic Evaluation Centre (EBE) decision board, together with the chairman.

 

Administration and Financial Management:

• Develop and manage the annual budget.
• Conduct financial follow-ups and reporting.
• Oversee invoicing for customers and owners.
• Negotiate and maintain agreements with customers and owners.

 

Project Management and Development:

• Establish, approve, and oversee project plans.
• Coordinate R&D activities within the Nordic region.
• Facilitate funding activities.
• Ensure proper staffing and follow-up of internal development projects.

 

Operations and Performance Management:

• Manage and develop NAV as a network organization and ensure job satisfaction among NAV co-workers.
• Ensure appropriate staffing and execution of breeding evaluations.
• Oversee and secure timely deliveries to customers.
• Delegate, and oversee operational work.

 

The role has many interfaces and stakeholders. You will be key in coordinating the network organization, and you will also be directly involved in a great variety of decisions and tasks. The role can handled from home office but will require a significant amount of travel to meet with partners in the Nordics but also to participate in meetings in EBE and in breeding conferences etc. abroad.

The employment conditions offered is a permanent position at one of NAVs owners – Faba, Landbrug & Fødevarer or Växa Sverige. From one of those legal entities you will then be seconded full-time to NAV for the assignment as Director.

 

Your profile

Besides a well developed understanding of cattle breeding in the Nordics and the mission of NAV, you possess a high level of competence in leadership, governance, administration, and project development. You have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills in English, and you are able to handle a variety of stakeholders with different nationality within both branch organizations, academia and the primary sector.
