Esmée is seeking a Sommelier

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our team, contributing to our reputation for outstanding wine and impeccable service.

Esmée is a cosmopolitan place inspired by the “Belle Époque” vibes of 1920s Paris. With a central location at Kongens Nytorv, we attract local foodies and tourists from all over the world. Our establishment prides itself on exceptional service, innovative cocktails, and a welcoming atmosphere. We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Bar Manager to join our team and help us continue delivering outstanding experiences to our guests.

Our service style is both professional and informal, with our front-of-house staff undergoing extensive and continuous training. Our interior design evokes a sense of warm, understated luxury, with lush greenery, thick curtains, and rich marble surfaces, reminiscent of a modern orangery.

Esmée emphasizes excellence in food, wine, and hospitality, creating a memorable and immersive dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Experience: Engage with guests to recommend and serve wine that enhances their dining experience. Offer guidance on wine pairings, ensuring seamless interaction between wine and food.

Wine Pairing: Assist the Wine Director & the kitchen teams at Esmée and Ambra to create curated wine pairings for tasting menus, seasonal dishes, and special events.

Inventory Management: Assist the Wine Director with wine inventory, including ordering, stock management, and ensuring the proper storage and care of wines.

Wine Service: Lead wine service during dining hours, from presenting and opening bottles to ensuring the correct pouring techniques and glassware are used.

Training & Education: Assist in training the front-of-house teams on wine knowledge, service standards, and wine pairings, ensuring the staff is confident in recommending wines to guests.

Events & Tastings: Host wine tastings, wine dinners, and other wine-related events to elevate guest experiences and promote the wine program.

Trends & Innovation: Stay updated on wine industry trends, new vintages, and emerging wine regions. Continuously bring new ideas to improve and evolve the wine list.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Sommelier, ideally in a fine-dining or upscale restaurant environment.
• Strong knowledge of French, Italian, and international wines, as well as spirits and other beverages.
• A formal sommelier certification (e.g., WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or similar) is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage guests in a friendly and professional manner.
• Passion for wine and food, with a deep understanding of how to pair them harmoniously.
• Ability to stay organized and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative mindset and a desire to work closely with the culinary and service teams.
