Be part of the green transition with COWI! We’re looking for a Freshwater Biologist to join our expert team and work on some of Denmark’s most impactful freshwater projects. Help assess, advise, and develop solutions that protect our natural water resources and drive environmental progress.

Create the solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

To strengthen our team of experts and provide specialist input within freshwater, we are looking for a Freshwater Biologist to join our team. We are working alongside our customers on some of Denmark's most significant projects in freshwater biology such as Svanemøllen Skybrudstunnel.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Calculating and assessing impacts on surface water in accordance with the Water Framework Directive (WFD). Hence the assessment of quality elements on fish, benthic fauna, aquatic plants or environmentally harmful substances.
  • Contribute to ensuring a high professional level in our environmental assessment as well as integration of environmental considerations in the projects.
  • Preparation of authority applications such as discharge permits.
  • Further development on assessment processes on primarily freshwater.
  • The interaction and impact between inland waters and sewages systems in various projects.
  • Fieldwork with registration of streams and waterholes.
  • Right now, for example, there are tasks such as environmental impact assessments of big infrastructure projects (mainly railways, highways, pipelines etc.), where you could contribute to the assessment on streams and lakes in accordance with the Water Frame Directive.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises, and you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will have:

  • A master’s degree within the field of biology with focus on freshwater and extensive knowledge within freshwater ecology or similar.
  • Experience working within The Water Framework Directive (WFD) and water plans and environmental assessment within freshwater.
  • The drive to develop and further strengthen the freshwater area in COWI.
  • Strong competencies in Danish – written and spoken.
  • You will be part of a dedicated and diverse team within environmental assessment – our team comes from many different backgrounds – e.g. biologists, geographers, and planners. It also includes a team of very experienced environmental lawyers, so that you can always get sparring on the latest developments within environmental law and frameworks.
