As part of an ambitious agenda within deep digital growth technologies, Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is opening full professor positions within Electrical Engineering. The growing electrification of all sectors, with added intelligence on all product and systems levels, is pushing novel technologies aggressively forward. They all require enhanced processing power and efficiency. Therefore, many of the sub-domains within Electrical Engineering, like advanced computing benefitting from novel chip designs, sensors and embedded intelligent systems as well as next generation communications are all potential core research pillars for us. We already today benefit from a strong support and interest for this agenda from the industry, and the institute is currently experiencing a rapid increase in both educational, research and innovation activities in the field. We aim to accelerate that even further. The new professors will help establish strategic direction and secure and grow international competitiveness within one or more of these specialized subdomains.                                                                                  

What we offer

As a full professor at the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering you will be a part of the team that will expand and deepen our growing and ambitious Electrical Engineering domain. In this position, you will:

  • Evolve dynamic research groups working in areas of disruptive breakthroughs with tremendous potential and societal relevance.
  • Be part of expanding the research and educational environment of the campus in either Odense or Sønderborg.
  • Lead and drive multidisciplinary research.
  • Facilitate collaborations with the wider university, national and international research partners as well as industrial partners.
  • Contribute to the further development of the existing electrical engineering programs at the highest level for bachelor and master-level students.
  • Guide and inspire PhD-fellows, Post Docs and assistant professors.
  • Lead research groups with members at all academic levels.

  • Be part of driving the national and international profile of the engineering faculty.

What we expect

A full professor is responsible for building up research and educational activities within their electrical engineering subtopic. Examples of relevant subtopics are: 

  • Semiconductor Devices & Microelectronics (advanced CMOS, 3D ICs, heterogeneous integration, cryogenic CMOS)
  • Intelligent Systems & Edge Computing (Hardware acceleration for AI, neuromorphic computing, Spiking Neural Networks)
  • Power & Energy Systems (renewable energy integration, power electronics, smart grids, grid code, harmonics mitigation)
  • Advanced Signal Processing & Communications (wireless networks, 6G, optical and quantum communication, IoT architecture, RADAR technology, modern antenna designs)
  • Sensors and Embedded & Cyber-Physical Systems (real-time actuation, robotic hardware/software architectures, and real-time onboard processing for autonomous systems)
  • Experimental Power electronics (converter technology, converter build up, multi level converter)

Research:

  • Internationally competitive career in an academic institution building on a PhD degree in an area related to electrical engineering. 
  • A demonstrated record of research impact and translation to practice.
  • Proven strengths in attracting highly competitive research funding.
  • Good track record of developing and executing research and innovation.
  • A highly recognized body of research within a focus area.

Teaching:

  • The ideal candidate has a strong teaching record and is an enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher, showing creativity in teaching. 
  • Demonstrated experience with teaching courses at bachelor and master level as well as experience with project supervision on all levels from bachelor to PhD.
  • The capacity for innovative design, coordination and delivery of bachelor and master program 
  • Experience in developing electrical engineering bachelor and master programs is a plus. 

Partnerships/collaborations:

  • A good reputation in leading research innovation and creating collaboration with researchers from other organizations as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A track record of building and sustaining partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders in complex settings, including international research organizations and industry, and ideally also government, and community.
  • A strong track record of industry-engaged research. 
  • High-tech spin-out activities based on research is a plus.

Leadership:

  • Strong track record of building and running research and innovation programs and processes.

In general, a successful candidate will lead high-impact research, secure competitive funding, collaborate with global academic and industrial leaders, and help drive our graduate and undergraduate education in Electrical Engineering.

Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering 

The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is an internationally recognized institute with contributions to society through research, education, and industrial collaboration. Within electrical engineering we have strong research groups at two campuses.

In Odense, our section on Digital and High Frequency Electronics focuses on conducting research in digital and high-frequency electronics, embedded systems, control, and communication, utilizing cutting-edge reconfigurable computing and sensors. The aim is to develop next-generation electronics and computing solutions that solve technology-related challenges in fields such as autonomous robots, drones, IoT, smart grid, and healthcare.

In Sønderborg the Centre for Industrial Electronics has a strong mission to advance electrification, digitalization and energy efficiency bridging applied research, technology development for sustainable development and innovation. A strong focus is put on the development of next generation electronics, such as active and passive components, power electronic devices, EMC and intelligent systems.

Conditions of employment

Appointment as full professor is permanent, and the preferred start date is as soon as possible and will be agreed with the successful candidates. 

Employment as full professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific qualifications with a high level of international academic production, experience with teaching on more academic levels, and contribution to development of teaching and teaching materials as well as the documented ability to administer scientific- and educational management tasks. 

Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for full professor as described herein. Further information on salary and taxation.  

The person employed in the position may, based on a specific individual managerial evaluation, be exempted from time registration, also known as a “self-organiser”.
