We’re seeking a Head of Artificial Intelligence to drive, lead, create, evolve, and share our AI work at Medflow. You’ll be fully in charge of our AI, ensuring that it helps customers certify their medical devices more easily and quickly.
We’d love someone who checks all these boxes. But we also know that a person with all these credentials is rare. We encourage you to apply if you meet most of these expectations, especially if you can prove excellent ability.
Modeling and Development
Hands-on modeling experience. Three years of experience in AI, ideally with neural networks for natural language processing or large language models. Comfortable exploring model architectures, hyperparameter optimization, and training methodologies to achieve state-of-the-art results. This experience can be obtained in both industry and academia. Proof of excellence in relevant work is a significant plus.
Ability to develop AI from first principles. Capable of building and fine-tuning models from scratch, going beyond API wrapping or pre-trained solutions. You must have designed and developed end-to-end AI pipelines that were efficient, scalable, and maintainable.
Studies and Research
Strong analytical skills. Proficiency in linear algebra, probability, statistics, optimization, and numerical methods to understand AI modeling. Expertise in algorithms, data structures, and computational complexity to design and implement efficient AI systems.
Ability to conduct AI research and development. Inclination, curiosity, and competency to dive deep into papers and experiment emerging methods.
Academic education. Bachelor, master, or doctorate in mathematics, statistics, computational physics, or computer science. Proof of excellence in relevant studies is a significant plus.
Motivation and Leadership
Mentorship and culture. Proven ability to guide and inspire a team in a collaborative, values-driven environment.
Effective communication. Fluent in English and skilled at explaining complex technical ideas to varied audiences. Other languages are a plus but not a requirement.
Knowledge sharing. Readiness to learn on the job and contribute insights, discoveries, and tools to the team.
Compliance and Commitment
Eagerness to learn healthcare regulations. Willingness to understand and comply with regulations like MDR, FDA, GDPR, and ISO.
Commitment to building robust solutions. Dedication to ensuring our AI products are secure, compliant, and suitable for real-world scenarios.
You will shape our AI strategy, lead innovation, ensure compliance, build a strong team, and share our achievements with stakeholders.
Drive Our AI Strategy
Develop a comprehensive AI vision and framework. Define clear success metrics, ethical guidelines, and risk management processes that align with Medflow’s broader goals.
Oversee advanced AI research initiatives. Keep track of emerging AI techniques theoretically and practically by reading, evaluating, and operationalizing academic papers.
Establish cross-functional alignment. Collaborate with product, engineering, and compliance teams to ensure AI projects support company objectives and regulatory requirements.
Explore partnerships and collaborations. Identify potential external relationships (e.g., universities, institutes) to accelerate innovation.
Set resource allocation and budget priorities. Ensure strategic AI investments and infrastructure enable short-term experiments and long-term growth.
Create Our AI Portfolio
Integrate AI models and agents into our products. Solve prioritized medical device certification challenges using Medflow’s data, customer data (with the proper permissions), and external datasets if needed.
Ensure regulatory compliance. Adhere to medical device certification standards, data protection regulations, and industry best practices.
Maintain operational readiness. Control latency and infrastructure costs, particularly during peak usage or real-time customer interactions.
Establish performance monitoring. Track key metrics (e.g., precision, latency, cost) to catch any drift or performance issues.
Evolve Our AI Portfolio
Continuously refine methodologies. Incorporate insights from research, market feedback, and user needs to keep our AI solutions competitive.
Run structured experiments and develop prototypes. Test new algorithms or theoretical advances before deciding on production integration and document findings for academic or industry dissemination.
Automate data pipelines. Implement reliable data integration, ingestion, preprocessing, and transformation processes.
Maintain thorough documentation and version control. Capture each model’s intended use, inputs/outputs, hyperparameters, limitations, and risks. Track code changes meticulously.
Streamline performance monitoring and anomaly detection. Automate metrics (precision, latency, cost) to spot issues before they escalate.
Share Our AI Results
Collaborate on funding proposals. Work with co-founders on grants, investment pitches, and strategic partnerships, providing the AI strategic vision and technical depth.
Disseminate AI results. Present at conferences or co-author research papers, blog posts, or white papers highlighting Medflow’s AI achievements.
Offer strategic insights to stakeholders. Guide investors, grant committees, and partners on our AI roadmap, success metrics, and plans.
Navigate geography. Join us in person at our office in Holte for meetings. For this reason, we will focus on candidates who live in Denmark (priority), then the Nordics, and then Europe. Travel (not too frequently) in the company’s interests may be needed.
Lead Our AI Team
Implement a structured communication framework. Hold regular planning sessions, track progress, and review results to align everyone on objectives.
Foster a culture of continuous learning. Encourage team members to experiment, read and discuss research, and explore new AI techniques theoretically and practically.
Create individualized learning paths. Balance personal development goals and team needs by tailoring growth plans for each member.
Promote ownership and cross-training. Assign areas of AI specialization and facilitate knowledge-sharing to ensure expertise is widely distributed.
Keep the Medflow team updated. Host knowledge-sharing sessions on new methods, best practices, and innovative AI tools.
You will lead transformative initiatives and shape the future of medical device certification. The role includes vesting tied to performance, strategic alignment, and mutually agreed milestones.
Timeline: We offer a 1-year cliff and a 4-year vesting towards shares in a total value of 5% of the company.
Option: In the event of excellent performance throughout the entire period, we offer the option to acquire additional shares of 5% of the company.
Payback: 50.000 DKK will apply if you leave on good terms after the cliff.
Salary: A competitive salary will apply if there is sufficient funding.
Our process is designed to uncover your expertise and fit for this critical role.
Portfolio: Walk us through your relevant projects, highlighting the context, methods, outcomes, and learnings.
Assignment: Solve a take-home challenge that mirrors the problems we tackled at Medflow. You’ll have plenty of time to experiment.
Interviews: We’ll have conversations to learn about your skills, aspirations, and potential fit. You may also tackle math and computer science exercises.
Please send your CV and any additional portfolio, references, or letters you see fit.
We will read your application and respond within a week.
