We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Primary and Middle School to join our leadership team and help advance our educational mission. The Head of Primary and Middle School ensures a high-quality educational experience in the PYP and MYP by aligning programmes with IB and local standards. As a key leader, they support teachers, oversee student well-being, and foster a collaborative, student-centered environment. This role is ideal for an experienced educator with strong leadership skills and a passion for international education. The position commences in August 2025.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Programme Development
- Ensure program excellence and alignment with IB standards across PYP and MYP.
- Collaborate with the Primary School Principal and PYP Coordinator and the Middle School Principal and MYP Coordinator to implement an inquiry-based curriculum tailored to students’ needs.
- Facilitate data-driven student progress assessments to identify areas for improvement, working closely with the Head of Student Support Services (SSS), Primary and Middle School Principals, and relevant coordinators.
- Promote a school culture rooted in IB philosophy, international-mindedness, and the IB Learner Profile.
- Support IB and local compliance, including evaluations and authorizations.
- Contribute to legal compliance, board meetings, and strategic planning.
2. Recruitment and Staff Development
- Recruit and retain passionate educators who embody the school’s mission and IB values.
- Define clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations for PYP and MYP staff.
- Provide professional development, mentoring, and feedback to enhance instructional quality.
- Facilitate collaborative planning aligned with IB standards and best practices, ensuring continuity across PYP, MYP, and where relevant, DP/STX.
- Foster a supportive work environment that prioritizes diversity, inclusion, and staff well-being.
3. Student Well-being and Interventions
- Ensure student interventions align with the school's values and IB’s holistic approach.
- Work with the Head of Student Support Services and Student Welfare Team to address individual student needs.
- Use data-driven strategies to monitor student progress and achievement.
- Lead final stages of student behavior support processes.
- Promote a culture that prioritizes inclusion, equity, and student safety.
4. Family Engagement and Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact, collaborating with the Primary and Middle School Principals.
- Organize family workshops and information sessions on IB programmes and school philosophy.
- Address parental concerns promptly and empathetically.
- Ensure alignment and consistency in family communication.
- Represent the school’s mission and values within the broader community.
5. Organizational and Administrative Leadership
- Define staff roles and responsibilities in collaboration with PYP and MYP, ensuring effective teamwork.
- Contribute to strategic planning, aligning PYP and MYP objectives with the school’s broader vision.
- Lead policy development related to academics, behavior, staff expectations, and family engagement.
- Oversee scheduling (in collaboration with the Primary and Middle School Principals), financial planning, and resource allocation to enhance teaching and learning environments.
- Manage hiring processes, staff development interviews, and task portfolio assignments.
6. Continuous Improvement and Strategic Contribution
- Work with the Head of School and leadership teams (PLT, SLT, and Hellerup Campus Meeting) to strengthen school programs.
- Stay informed on IB developments, sharing insights and best practices to improve program quality.
Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced degree (M.A. or higher) in Education or a related field.
- Proficiency in English; Danish proficiency preferred.
- Minimum five years of leadership experience, preferably within IB programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and empower staff and students.
- Strong understanding of IB PYP and MYP frameworks with a commitment to international education.
- Experience in international school settings or multicultural environments.
- Expertise in staff recruitment, team-building, and promoting staff well-being.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective student support strategies.
- Strong administrative skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
- Commitment to lifelong learning, staying current with best practices in educational leadership, IB programs, and innovative teaching methodologies.
