We are looking to hire a Human Physiologist to support our efforts in the data collection for the Danish Precision Health Initiative (DELPHI). DELPHI is anchored in the Novo Nordisk Foundation for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) at the University of Copenhagen. The start date is October 1, 2024, or after agreement.

About CBMR

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology and pharmacology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. You can learn more in the Executive Summary of CBMR's Strategy 2024–2028.

CBMR was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and has been located in the Maersk Tower at PANUM since 2017. The around 260 employees create an international, highly collaborative research environment across disciplines.

About DELPHI

DELPHI is a longitudinal cohort study initiated by Professor Ruth Loos. The study aims to advance precision medicine by collecting in-depth, precise and multidimensional individual characteristics of health to allow a more accurate prediction of future risk of disease, progression of disease and a tailored prevention targeting subgroups of the population instead of assuming a one-size-fits-all strategy. To fulfil this goal, we have established an extensive battery of tests to collect phenotype data from an in-clinic visit and data collected using wearable devices in participants' free-living conditions

Initiated in 2022, DELPHI will be conducted in our new human deep-phenotyping lab in the Panum building, Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences, in 2024. You will work on the DELPHI project and be part of the Loos Group.

Your job

You will join the DELPHI data collection team and work together with Project Nurses, Laboratory Technicians and Physiologists. You will perform various parts of the test battery to examine participants' health status, such as cardiopulmonary exercise test (VO2max), test of maximal knee extensor strength and pulmonary function, apply sensors to measure daily blood sugar and activity levels and conduct information interviews. We are looking for a flexible, positive team player, to ensure that the daily flow of participants in the project runs as professionally as possible and that participants leave with a positive experience.

Your profile

It is important that you:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in Sports and Health or a Master degree in human physiology
  • Have experience with conducting physiological tests and collecting research data
  • Are a basic level Microsoft Excel user (Basic data entry and formatting, Simple formula usage (e.g., SUM, AVERAGE), Basic chart creation, Cell formatting and basic functions).
  • Have basic IT-skills and are comfortable with learning to use a variety of test-specific IT systems that may not be intuitive and user-friendly
  • Can work independently and follow standard operating procedures
  • Have a can-do attitude to new tasks and are team-oriented
In addition, it will be an advantage if you:

  • Have experience with VO2max testing and are familiar with the COSMED Quark CPET system
  • Have experience with performing tests for maximal isometric knee extensor strength
  • Have experience with wearable devices such as accelerometers and continuous glucose measurements
  • Can read and speak English. You will mainly be interacting with colleagues in Danish, but as the research group has many non-Danish researchers, the working language will on some occasions be English
Salary and terms of employment

You will be employed at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, University of Copenhagen. The position is full-time (average weekly working hours are 37 hours). The position is limited to 2 years with possible extension depending on performance. The start date is October 1, 2024, or after agreement.

Employment will be as Academic Research Officer or Research Consultant in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experience and qualifications

UCPH is in the process of designing a new shared administrative organisation at UCPH, which is expected to lead to changes within the next 12 - 18 months. The purpose of the administrative reform is, among other things, to strengthen cross-organisational cooperation, increase efficiency, and ensure good career paths for administrative staff members at UCPH.
