Are you in for an exciting position as a member of a strong propeller team?

Do you want to develop and apply the newest technology in the maritime industry and at the same time make a significant contribution to the green transition?

Within a portfolio of marine technologies, MAN Energy Solutions is a technology leader in designing, manufacturing and servicing propellers for a multitude of ship types, covering both the commercial and navy markets. The propellers form a part of a propulsion system and are designed to meet the most stringent requirements for efficiency, noise and strength. The design process is supported by a suite of software programs comprising internal and third-party developed ones.

To strengthen our hydrodynamic team we are looking for a talented and ambitious candidate who will join us on our journey of developing the next-generation propellers to meet our customer’s performance expectations including present and coming environmental rules and legislations.

You will play an important role in:
The student will be enrolled in the 3-year industrial PhD program at the Department of Mathematical Sciences in Aalborg University (AAU). As our new industrial PhD student, you will:

  • Develop and advance a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver for practical and reliable prediction of underwater radiated noise induced by cavitation. This involves mathematical modelling, programming and CFD validation.
  • Contribute to process experimental data from cavitation tunnels and propellers in operation.
  • Incorporate the developed numerical tool in our propeller design process and contribute to our high-efficiency and low-noise propeller development.
  • Support our internal organization with hydrodynamic calculations and analysis.

We imagine that you:

  • Hold (or expect to obtain) a master’s degree in engineering, physics or mathematics, with a specialization in maritime engineering, naval architecture, fluid mechanics, acoustics, numerical mathematics or topology, with an academic record satisfying the requirements of Innovation Fund Denmark and AAU
  • Are knowledgeable in some of these competencies: hydrodynamics, open-source computational methods, CFD, mathematical modeling, programming and ship propulsion. Internal training will be provided for obtaining these.
  • Have great focus on quality and the achievement of set goals, both individually and for the team
  • Are open-minded and willing to participate in discussions as the design process is a team effort
  • Are fluent in English verbally and in writing, as well as technical English

As a person you are:

  • Dynamic, trustworthy and capable of building and maintaining relations with other team members and colleagues.
  • Result-oriented, work proactively and diligently, as well as understand cultural differences, as the team is multi-ethnical.

Welcome to Hydrodynamics Team
The hydrodynamic team is a dynamic group with an international background and uses English as the team’s primary language. As a member of the team, you will be part of MAN Energy Solutions’ competency center within propeller and propulsion. Your industrial workplace will be either in Frederikshavn or Copenhagen.

As an industrial PhD student, you will be employed at MAN Energy Solutions and at the same time be enrolled at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at AAU in Copenhagen. Your academic workplace will be in Copenhagen as a part of a research group on the modeling of cavitation and noise.
