Junior Planner for Timetable Planning (student position)

The Danish railway is undergoing a significant development with a new signaling system, electrification, and new rolling stock. This provides us with many new opportunities, but also challenges along the way, which we must deal with in our Timetable Planning.

To support us in this, our team is looking for a Junior Planner with a creative approach to problem-solving to join our efforts.

As you walk through the door to the department of Timetable Planning at DSB, you meet 10 people working with planning of the regional and long-distance train network. Our primary task is to get the customers to where they want to be at the right time – and on time.

We have diverse backgrounds – some of us have engineering degrees and others have learned about the railway from dispatching traffic. We appreciate nerds, and prioritize incorporating our different perspectives in the planning solutions.

As a Junior Planner, we will pair you up with an experienced colleague to support you, and you can of course always ask for help from the entire team.

About the job

You will be employed in the department for Timetable Planning, where we are responsible for making both the yearly timetable and adjustments throughout the year due to track works. We are also responsible for planning the rolling stock schedule for our yearly base plan, so we ensure the right capacity on each departure.

As a Junior Planner in the department, we can offer you different tasks across the department depending on your interests and skills.

You could for example be offered to

• Participate in the working group on the yearly timetable, analyzing challenges and improvement opportunities and figuring out solution proposals
• Play a role in upgrading our international train network by handling the planning operations surrounding the adoption of our new Talgo trains
• Develop some of the first plans in our new circulation planning software from IVU, going into service from April 2025
• Analyze running time data from performed traffic to improve our prerequisites for making punctual and robust timetables
   

We collaborate as a team, but you also have the chance to take on your own responsibilities.

About you

We are looking for a new colleague with a specific interest in planning, especially within railway traffic. Your line of study is probably within engineering or mathematical disciplines, and we prefer that you have 1½ - 2 years left of your study time.

• Take responsibility for your tasks and the deadlines we provide.
• Are not afraid to ask for help and seek advice from co-workers and manager to succeed with your tasks.
• Are prepared to take on also routine tasks to relieve your co-workers.
• Can work together with people of many different backgrounds.
• Perform well at your study with good grades.
   

As DSB is a Danish speaking company, it is beneficial if you have knowledge of Danish or a willingness to learn. It is, however, not a requirement, and we are prepared to make the job work for you in English with your cooperation.

This means, for example, that we can do one to one communication with you in English, but that you are also willing to process e-mails received in Danish, and understand that some meetings with many participants will be conducted in Danish.
