At Seaborg Technologies we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced molten salt reactor we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and scalable technology that can make fossil fuels a thing of the past and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide millions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what inspires all of us every day.
Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn’t easy and requires a diverse team bringing together a range of talents and perspectives. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry from all over the world to develop technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.
This is your chance to become part of a collaborative environment where you can chart a diverse career and help change the world. Seaborg’s work environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility, and personal growth but also demands flexibility.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to support the next stage of Seaborg’s growth.
Your focus in this role will be on international commercial contracting, with a particular emphasis on industrial and research collaborations and supplier relationships, where you will have a leading role in building the legal framework we need to develop and, ultimately, build and deploy our barge-installed compact molten salt reactor.
We are a small legal team in a fast-moving scale-up environment, so you will also have the chance (and be asked) to work on many other legal aspects of the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
You will draft, review and act as lead legal negotiator for international commercial contracts, both by yourself and, where necessary, in close cooperation with external counsel.
You will help develop contracting strategies, structure workflows and prepare template documentation that facilitate the expansion of the business.
You will support the General Counsel and other stakeholders as required with other legal needs of the organization, for example by assisting on legal compliance (export control), regulatory (nuclear law) and corporate secretarial matters.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
You have a minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience as a practising lawyer from private practice or in-house.
You have worked extensively with drafting, reviewing and negotiating international commercial contracts, ideally with a focus on IP-heavy collaborations and/or complex supply chain contracting.
You hold a university-level qualification in law.
You have full professional proficiency in English.
Sector-specific knowledge is not essential, but experience in technology development or industrial manufacturing would be an advantage.
PERSONAL COMPETENCIES
You thrive on the legal detail but know when to step back to consider the bigger picture.
You can explain complex concepts in simple terms and are culturally aware in your dealings with international partners.
You trust your own judgement but know when to ask for help.
You are keen to expand your legal, commercial and sectoral knowledge into new areas.
You want to work in a small and supportive team that turns its hand to all legal aspects of a growing business.
WHAT WE OFFER
The chance to contribute to the development of ground-breaking technology that will impact the global energy landscape.
An international and diverse team.
Personal and professional development opportunities and support.
Informal and flexible work environment.
