ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Danish Institute for Human Rights is looking for two new colleagues to join an ambitious team working on human rights, gender and migration. You will contribute to the concrete implementation of projects and activities related to migration management in the MENA region, cooperating with international organisations, civil society, and state actors to advance human rights and gender equality within migration governance.
We are searching for a senior advisor and a researcher to contribute to the flagship project – MediRights – relating to human rights protection and gender-sensitive approaches to migration in Tunisia and Egypt. This relates to protection on the borders as well as dialogues on economic and social rights of migrants in host and transit countries.

As a Senior Advisor, you will play a key role in implementing project activities, providing expertise and training, and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Implement the MediRights project with a focus on migrants’ human rights in Tunisia and Egypt.
  • Be an integral part of the Project Team in Copenhagen, Tunisia, and Egypt to achieve the project’s targets, including mainstreaming human rights and gender-based approaches.
  • Provide advisory support and capacity building to state and migration governance actors.
  • Lead the design and facilitation of workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing events.
  • Develop training modules and maintain strategic relationships with partners, including ICMPD, UNHCR, IOM, and EUAA.
  • Promote best practices and lessons learned in human rights and migration governance.
  • Support the Analyst, Learning Specialist, and Monitoring & Evaluation Adviser.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree (Master’s) in law, political science, or a related field.
  • Solid experience in the field of human rights and migration, including economic and social rights, and human rights and gender-based approaches to migration.
  • Knowledge of women’s and children’s rights in relation to migration.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating training on human rights and migration.
  • Experience with migration governance actors or similar state actors, and knowledge of International Organizations or INGOs.
  • Experience from politically sensitive contexts such as Tunisia and Egypt will be an asset.
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of French or Arabic. Danish is an advantage.
As a Researcher, you will be responsible for conducting a large-scale study on the rights of migrants, primarily focusing on economic and social rights. You will contribute to DIHR’s work by providing analytical support to the MENA team, undertaking thematic studies, baseline studies, stakeholder analyses, and other related research efforts that inform and strengthen DIHR’s engagement with state and migration governance actors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a detailed, large-scale study on migration in North Africa, with a particular focus on Tunisia and Egypt, together with colleagues in the region. The study will analyse the conditions, challenges, and policy frameworks that affect migrants’ access to rights and services, especially concerning economic opportunities, social inclusion and protection from Sexual and Gender-based Violence.
  • Contribute to DIHR’s broader work in the region by providing analytical support to the MediRights project. This includes baseline studies, context analyses, stakeholder mapping, gender justice analyses, and thematic studies that support DIHR’s strategic objectives on the nexus between migration and human rights.
  • Produce high-quality, concise reports that synthesize findings, trends, and recommendations, facilitating facts-based dialogue and decision-making.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing within DIHR and among partners through the presentation of study findings and participation in discussions, workshops, and trainings.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced university degree (PhD or Master’s) in law, political science, social sciences, development studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in conducting research and analysis in the field of migration and human rights, with a documented focus on the economic and social rights of migrants.
  • Published work in English, including academic articles, reports, or other studies, that demonstrates expertise in the nexus between human rights, women’s rights and migration issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of migration and human rights in the MENA region, particularly Tunisia and Egypt.
  • Strong ability to conduct structured, context-specific research and write concisely and eloquently in English, presenting findings that are accessible and relevant for diverse audiences.
  • Publications or previous research experience on human rights and migration issues specifically related to Tunisia and/or Egypt are an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Arabic or French is an advantage.

CONDITIONS FOR BOTH POSITIONS

  • Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with approximately 50 travel days per year.
  • Full-time positions with estimated start in February 2025.
  • Salary and other conditions will be determined in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations with the possibility to negotiate individual supplements.
