We are offering a Ph.D. fellowship in clinical immune thrombocytopenia at the Veterinary Clinical Pathology group to commence 1st of june 2025 (or as soon as possible hereafter)

Our group and research

The Veterinary Clinical Pathology research group performs research in all aspects of veterinary clinical pathology but has a focus on understanding and developing diagnostic biomarkers within inflammation, hemostasis, and validation of assays for predictive biomarkers in a range of species. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (https://vetdiagnostik.ku.dk/) is part of the Section for Clinical Practice and Diagnostics in Companion Animals and the research group for Veterinary Clinical Pathology, at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The group is responsible for both lectures, classroom teaching and small group teaching of 4th and final year students, provides a diagnostic and advisory service and continuous professional education seminars for veterinarians in general practice as well as teaching within an international professional postgraduate master programme within companion animal clinical sciences (www.cacs.ku.dk).

The veterinary clinical pathology research group is a part of the Section for Clinical Practice and Diagnostics in Companion Animals. The section holds clinical teaching and service obligations within companion animal general practice (medicine and surgery), internal and critical care medicine, anesthesiology, didactics, dermatology and veterinary clinical pathology and collaborates across fields both within the department but also nationally and internationally.

Project description

We are seeking a highly motivated and promising Ph.D. candidate to join our research team. We have a long track record in performing hemostasis research in different veterinary species using a variety of novel techniques to gain more pathophysiological insight in hemostatic dysfunction triggered by concurrent chronic diseases, validate new assays in veterinary species and assist in more veterinary precision medicine targeted therapeutic regiments. All with the view to improve the health and quality of lives for our veterinary patients.

The current project involves characterization and understanding of the cellular immune response and inflammatory pattern in associative and non-associative immune thrombocytopenia in dogs. In the study, the candidate will become proficient in using and interpreting different laboratory analyses such as flow cytometry, ELISA and immunoturbidimetric assays.

As a PhD student in our group, you will be responsible for devising a research protocol, recruiting appropriate patients samples, gather phenotypic patient characterization, develop, and apply advanced analyses and perform statistical analysis, interpretation of results, writing manuscripts for publication and scientific applications, communicating our scientific results and engaging with collaborators.

Principal supervisor: Lise Nikolic Nielsen

Start: 1st of June 2025

End: 3 years as a Ph.D. student
