We are offering a PhD fellowship in Clinical Translational Metabolism commencing April 1st, 2025, or as soon as possible hereafter.
Our group and research
The position is available in the Clinical Translational Metabolism Group headed by Professor Signe Torekov. In our group, we aim at bridging between biomedical research and clinical practice and prevention in obesity. By conducting clinical experimental interventions that characterize and integrate the complex pathophysiology behind obesity, and by securing synergistic and fruitful collaborations, we strive to identify prevention, causalities and optimal treatment options for individuals living with obesity.
You will be part of a team conducting large clinical trials within investigations of prevention and treatment of obesity published in highly cited medical journals. You can read more about the Torekov Group and our current projects here: https://bmi.ku.dk/english/research/endocrinology-and-metabolism/clinical-translational-metabolism/
Project description
We are seeking a highly motivated and promising PhD candidate to join our research team. The Clinical Translational Metabolism group focuses on obesity, weight loss and sustaining a healthy weight throughout life as we want to contribute to the development and improvement of effective prevention and treatment strategies for obesity in both children, adolescents and adults. We aim to translate basic metabolism research into clinically relevant evidence, collaborating with both basic scientists and clinicians. Our research includes a variety of clinical and experimental methods to investigate the metabolic, psychosocial and behavioral mechanisms underlying obesity, weight loss and weight loss maintenance in humans. Our group has extensive experience in running clinical trials and integrates a variety of factors including appetite regulation, gut hormones, diet, physical activity, behavioral and social aspects.
Currently we are conducting a large randomized controlled clinical trial in young adults with childhood-onset obesity (The RESETTLE Study). This study investigates the effect of semaglutide as an add-on to hospital-based non-pharmacological obesity care and the impact of a structured exercise program in a post medication phase seeking to prevent weight-regain. We are also initiating a large clinical trial including 400 families living with obesity. This trial aims to improve treatment for children living with obesity by combining family involvement, pharmacological obesity treatment for the parents and AI technology to track family behaviors in real time to help improve physical activity levels, sleep and eating behavior in one intervention program.

As a PhD student in our group, you will be responsible for recruiting and conducting clinical trials on a daily basis. You will take an important part in all the scientific aspects related to our studies including contributing to the scientific research development, generating new scientific questions to investigate, perform statistical analysis, interpretation of results, writing manuscripts for publication and scientific applications, communicating our scientific results and engaging with collaborators.
