The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a PhD position in operator algebras with a focus on the structure and classification of C*-dynamical systems.

The starting date is July 1, 2025 (or nearby date). The hired candidate will be supervised by Associate Professor Jamie Gabe

Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a general interest in operator algebras and/or non-commutative geometry. The student is expected to hold a master’s degree in mathematics by the starting date for the position (July 1, 2025) and have a solid background within functional analysis and an interest in working within the field of operator algebras.

The position is associated with the Semper Ardens: Accelerate grant “Classifying finite and infinite C*-dynamics” funded by the Carlsberg Foundation and held by Jamie Gabe.

Fluency in English is required.

About the Workgroup
The PhD student will belong to the Operator Algebra group within the Topology, Analysis, Algebra, and Geometry (TAAG) research section. The Operator Algebra group boasts several permanent faculty members working in operator algebras and noncommutative geometry. The TAAG section conducts research within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics, and the section has close ties with SDU’s Center for Quantum Mathematics.
