Do you want to further your career in construction material circularity and play a pivotal role in its integration into climate mitigation models? Then DTU Sustain, Department of Environmental and Resource Engineering, offers you an ideal position to work on the circular economy (CE) frontier and sustainability for the construction sector. The position will be instrumental in accomplishing a newly funded EU IA project “UpCycling mIneral and timbeR-based waste from Construction & manUfacturing process industries through eco-design, advanced logistics, quality control and digital solutions” that aims to improve the quality and performances of secondary materials up to industry expected standards. 

Responsibilities and qualifications
As main responsibilities during your PhD studies you are expected to work closely with other scientific staff working under the same project (Circuless) and:

  • Actively disseminate your results in high-impact scientific articles, 
  • Participate in international conferences to disseminate your work,
  • Undertake courses that further your expertise to develop the project’s aim,
  • Translate research outcomes into practice/teaching material
  • Participate in teaching activities as a teaching assistance.

You should be highly motivated and self-driven, as well as have strong work ethics, team spirit and excellent collaboration skills. You take responsibility for your work in an organized and structured manner.

As a formal qualification you must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Preferably you hold a master´s degree within environmental engineering, statistics, or data science with a passion for sustainability. 

As an ideal candidate, you have documented experience with the following:

  • Concepts of biobased materials, in particular wood, some of wood circular economy options and sustainability 
  • Large datasets management, preferably with modeling, statistical or LCA background
  • Knowledge of material flow analysis, life cycle assessment modeling, social-LCA, and/or life cycle cost modeling 
  • Scientific writing and publication at the international journal level
  • Would like to learn about project management and support a RIA Horizon Europe project

Desired skills in database software and ontology approaches, focusing on environmental variables and impacts. Good command of written and spoken English is required. Experience with interdisciplinary is necessary to ensure strong collaboration with the other colleagues within the Centre.

Approval and Enrolment  
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education

Salary and appointment terms 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
