A 2-year position as Postdoc is available at the Work, Environment and Cancer group at the Danish Cancer Institute

The position
The Work, Environment and Cancer research group is a dynamic team of researchers dedicated to study effects of environmental and occupational exposures on development of cancer and other diseases.

You will contribute with your knowledge of epidemiology and analytical skills to the research project WorkSOUND in which we aim to investigate whether exposure to occupational noise, alone and in combination with other stressors, increases the risk of various diseases. Although 15 to 20% of the European population are exposed to high levels of occupational noise, there is very limited knowledge on the effect of this exposure on human health.

The WorkSOUND project is based on the entire Danish workforce. We are currently working on finalising a dataset for the project, with individual occupational exposure to noise and job strain for all people working in Denmark from 1991 to 2022, estimated based on job-exposure-matrices. This dataset will serve as the basis for the postdoc project.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Generate final datasets with information on occupational noise exposure, other stressors, diseases and potential confounders for the Danish workforce in collaboration with other researchers in the research group
  • Conduct statistical analyses (survival analyses) of the relationship between occupational noise, other stressors and risk of diabetes and depression
  • Conduct literature searches
  • Write scientific papers for international peer-reviewed journals

The project is a collaboration between researchers at the Danish Cancer Institute, the National Research Centre for the Working Environment, and Aarhus University Hospital.

Furthermore, from 2025 onwards our research group will participate in a large EU project on noise and air pollution, and the risk of cardiovascular diseases which you will be involved in.

Qualifications
The qualified applicant has a MSc in Public Health, Health Informatics, Human Biology or similar education. The candidate must have a PhD degree in which focus has been on epidemiology.

It is essential that you have solid experience with quantitative epidemiological research and can handle, build and clean large datasets as well as conduct statistical analyses, preferably in SAS or R.

Documented experience in writing and publishing scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals is essential.

We also expect you to work independently and have a strong sense of responsibility as well as good skills for organising, planning, collaboration and communication.

We offer
An inspiring and dynamic working environment in an interdisciplinary research center (biologists, human biologists, public health scientists, doctors, data managers, psychologists, statisticians etc.) where we work with many different epidemiological and biological topics. The research department regularly hosts interdisciplinary seminars with external lecturers on biological and epidemiological research areas and internal courses on relevant topics. We have a postdoc network which arranges regular meetings and seminars.

The position is for 2 years and full-time, with the possibility of extension, and is open from 1st January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Salary, pension and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish government and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). We offer canteen, fruit scheme, a sports and art club as well as physiotherapy. The Danish Cancer Society has of course a no smoking policy during working hours.
