Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Postdoc at the Department of Organization with a focus on organization studies, frontline work and public encounters. The position has a duration of 2 years, with an optional additional third year of teaching. The candidate is expected to start no later than 1 January 2025.

The Postdoc is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new research project entitled “Record Keeping in Frontline Work: Balancing Bureaucratic, Professional and Relational Concerns (RECORD)” under the supervision of Associate Professor Anne Mette Møller (PI). The research project is funded by

The Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) and situated at the intersection of public administration, organization studies, and the sociology of professions. The project explores how and why frontline workers prioritize different purposes of record keeping in practice, including bureaucratic (legal-administrative), professional (coordinating/action-enabling) and relational (citizen-oriented) concerns. The project further explores how these priorities are reflected in actual case records and their uses and seeks to understand the implications from the perspective of citizens and other stakeholders. (Details available upon request).

The Postdoc candidate should have substantial training in public administration, organization studies, sociology, or similar, with a high research focus on frontline work and public encounters. The project is based on in-depth qualitative research methods (organizational ethnography, interviewing, and document studies). The position requires experience with these methods, particularly ethnographic fieldwork and interviewing. Experience with research participants in vulnerable positions is beneficial. Other relevant areas of expertise include organization theory, professions, bureaucracy, and digitalization.

The work involves close collaboration with the PI.

case study and fieldwork methodology.

Teaching responsibilities of the Department comprise undergraduate and graduate teaching as well as teaching in post-experience and doctoral education.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.
