The Department of Social Sciences and Business, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as postdoc in the field of South-South security cooperation from 1st September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as postdoc is limited to a period of 2 years.
The Department of Social Sciences and BusinessThe Postdoc’s daily workplace will be the Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE), at Roskilde University. The Department’s research focuses on societal changes, conflict dynamics, business economics and the impact of such developments on different societies around the world. We aim at generating novel scientific insights into the on-going societal changes, confrontations and conflicts. The positionThe postdoc position is part of the research project Transregional South-South Cooperation and the New Geopolitics of African Security Governance, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The purpose of the research project is to investigate the geopolitical implications of Latin American security cooperation with African countries, as well as the impact of such cooperation on the practical and normative outlook of African security governance.
The postdoc is expected to work in close collaboration with the project PIs,
Professor (MSO) Markus-Michael Müller and
Associate Professor Louise Wiuff Moe.QualificationsApplicants must hold a PhD or the equivalent thereof within the field of Political Science or related fields focusing on international politics and security governance (e.g. Sociology, Criminology).
The ideal candidate is furthermore expected to demonstrate:
- Fieldwork experience (including conducting interviews with security professionals)
- Interest in Latin American security governance from a transnational perspective.
- Fluency in English and experience in publishing in English.
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Documented skills in applying qualitative methods.
- Knowledge of South-South security cooperation.
The ideal candidate shall be enterprising and possess good communication skills. Upon employment, the postdoc is expected to be visible, and involved in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across ISE. The postdoc is also expected to conduct fieldwork in Latin America and Africa.
Responsibilities and tasksThe postdoc is expected to:
- Be an active collaborative partner in the research project.
- Conduct and complete independent research in collaboration with other members of the research project.
- Publish independently and in collaboration with the PIs in relevant peer reviewed journals.
- Over the course of the hire, develop a specific field of expertise by adding new significant elements to the doctoral thesis.
- Participate and present research findings at relevant international conferences.
- Co-organize and participate in project-related seminars, network meetings and research workshops.
- Contribute to popular dissemination of research findings and stakeholder activities.
- Be an active member of one of the department’s research groups.
- Be an active and present colleague.
AssessmentIn the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to;
- the quality of the candidates’ PhD-dissertation.
- scientific production and research (publications such as book chapters and articles in international peer-reviewed journals).
- documented knowledge of the research field of the position.
- the ability to promote and utilize research results.
- ability to collaborate closely with research partners.
- ability to contribute to the development of the department’s internal and external cooperation.

Terms of employmentThe employment is full time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Dean of Social Sciences Morten Frederiksen.
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
