Department of Public Health invites applicants for a Postdoc fellowship in the complexities of women’s menopausal transitions. The project is part of the interdisciplinary research initiative Women in Healthy Transition (KISO).

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoctoral researcher for a one-year position. The starting date is as soon as possible, preferable no later than May 1, 2025.

Through a qualitative research approach, this postdoctoral position focuses on exploring how consultations in general practice addressing the menopausal transition are experienced by both menopausal women and health professionals. The aim is to develop best practice guidelines. The role involves conducting in-depth interviews and focus groups, and you will be part of a highly interdisciplinary milieu.

Our group and research

You will be employed at the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. You will be affiliated with the section of Social Medicine which contribute to the development of health promotion, prevention, and rehabilitation nationally and internationally.  We investigate life course social, psychosocial, psychological, physiological and behavioral determinants of health and function, as well as the socioeconomic consequences of disease and functional decline, with a focus on social inequality. You will be part of a newly established interdisciplinary research group within the section called Women’s Health and Menopause, led by Associate Professor Maria Hybholt. We are located in Copenhagen and offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic research environment. You will also be affiliated with the Section of General Practice through a close collaboration with Associate Professor Ann Dorrit Guassora. You will further be part of the interdisciplinary national menopausal network (link) that collectively strives to make a solid and fundamental research field within the complexities of menopause. 

 

Your job

We strive for excellence in our field, aiming to achieve outstanding collective milestones. In collaboration with the PI and other researchers your responsibilities and research tasks include:

  • Planning, organizing, and conducting six focus groups with relevant health professionals and 20 individual interviews with women in the menopausal transition.
  • Qualitative analysis of empirical material including transcription, coding and framing.
  • Completing literature reviews and writing and co-authoring research articles in top-level journals.
  • Project presentations at national and international conferences and seminars.
  • Contribution to the development and progression of the Women in Healthy Transition Initiative, including establishing relevant research network in collaboration with other researchers.
  • Administration tasks such as data management (organising and archiving of data, sharing of data with research group members), organizing of and participation in research group activities such as seminars, workshops and meetings.
  • Public dissemination and sharing of knowledge into public domains.

 

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher within the Social Science of Health Promotion with the following competencies and experience.

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in public health, (medical) anthropology, family medicine, sociology, or psychology.
  • You are highly experienced in using qualitative methods including in-depth individual interviews and focus groups as well as in analysing and interpreting qualitative data.
  • You possess extensive research knowledge and experience in the field of general practice.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
  • Fluency in Danish at the start is a non-negotiable requirement to conduct the qualitative study

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Proven experience in writing scientific articles in the fields of public health, social medicine, or related disciplines.
  • Being self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as competent to collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Having a creative and curious mindset with a strong interest in the everyday life of women, menopause and health consultations.

 

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

 

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of one year. The starting date is as soon as possible, preferable no later than May 1, 2025.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,500 DKK/approx. 5,100 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Applicants can attach a maximum of three publications. The publication dates must be clearly marked on the list. The selected publications must be uploaded as attachments.

  1. Research plan (max. one page) for the project including purpose, methods, and a timeline for the different phases of the project.
  2. Documentation of teaching competencies/teaching portfolio (see the UCPH guidelines for teaching portfolios here) and other work on the dissemination of research.

The further process
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee.
