The Royal Danish Academy of Music hereby invites applications for the position of Professor of Cello, with commencement on 1 September 2025.

The position

The future professor will be responsible for training cellists up to the highest soloist level, i.e. in the principal study and all associated disciplines, with possible teaching in profession-oriented principal studies, e.g. chamber music. It is assumed that the professor will contribute actively to the development of the orchestral programme, in close collaboration with the other teachers in the department, the Head of Studies and the President of the Academy. This applies not only to the soloistic elements of the study programmes, but also to all parts that aim to promote the students’ opportunities to meet the various demands of the employment market for specialisation in orchestral music, chamber music, early and contemporary music, music pedagogy, communication, project development, etc.

It is expected that the professor will assume a significant degree of responsibility for leading the Cello department and participating in the department’s work with the orchestral programme and in the development of the Academy as a whole. It is essential that the students are prepared both artistically, creatively and innovatively for a future music life that is changing and developing.

The position also includes study administration duties in connection with organising and participating in teaching, examinations, entrance examinations, meetings, etc. The position’s content of artistic research (KUV) and pedagogical development activities (PUV), as well as other possible artistic projects, will be arranged by agreement with the President.

Qualifications

An assessment of the applicants’ qualifications will be carried out, taking into account:

  • Extensive artistic activity as a cellist at international level
  • Extensive teaching experience in training cellists to the highest level (Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Music programme)
  • Artistic research and/or pedagogical development activities, or equivalent activities at international level
  • Orchestral experience and/or in-depth knowledge of the conditions that apply to professional work in a symphony orchestra
  • The ability to co-operate with other staff groups
  • Possible study administration experience
A motivated letter of application, CV, diplomas, and documentation of artistic activities, artistic research and pedagogical development activities, as well as any teaching that the applicant wishes to be included in the assessment, must be submitted electronically. Possible recordings may be collected on a playlist. The overall application must elucidate and document the required qualifications for the position, and contain a detailed account of the applicant’s personal and professional goals for fulfilling the position. Suggestions for concrete projects within the areas of Artistic Research (KUV) and Pedagogical Development (PUV) may be included. A teaching test may be expected in connection with the qualification assessment.

The Academy is an institution of higher artistic education with an international profile, where it is natural that all staff members can undertake teaching in English. We regard diversity as a resource, and we therefore encourage everyone, regardless of personal background, to apply for the position. Other employment will be possible to the extent that this is compatible with the position at RDAM.

Salary and employment conditions

The post will be filled under the terms of the relevant collective agreement, and is classified in salary scale 37, in which the salary as of 1 April 2024 is DKK 639,938 per annum, full-time. On top of this come pension contributions and a possible personal allowance.

The position’s FTE will be determined on the basis of an agreement on teaching and other tasks during the academic year. The position is a fixed-term appointment for five years, with the possibility of extension for up to three further years. The appointment will occur pursuant to Ministry of Culture Executive Order no. 1123 of 22 August 2018 on the Recruitment of Artistic/Academic Staff at certain Educational Institutions under the Ministry of Culture. See also the circular on the Position Structure for Artistic/Scientific staff at the Conservatories of Music under the Ministry of Culture.

For further information about the conditions of employment, please contact the President of the Royal Danish Academy of Music at [email protected].

The application must be received by the Academy no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 2 April 2025.
