Department of Law invites applications for a professorship in criminal law. The position shall be filled as per 1 January 2025 or by agreement.

Job Description

The person employed in the position is expected to contribute significantly to the faculty's overall research strategy and to the department's research and teaching environment within the main area of criminal law, particularly the general and special part of criminal law. The overall area of criminal law also includes criminal procedural law, including the impact of the ECHR as well as special criminal law on violation of the special legislation (hereafter collectively referred to as the "subject area").

As professor you are expected to:
  • make a significant contribution to the department's teaching environment, in particular by carrying out research-based teaching and supervision tasks at both Bachelor's and Master's degree level within the subject area, and you must therefore be able to teach in Danish, including in criminal law at the Bachelor’s degree programme
  • make a significant contribution to the Department's research environment by participating in internal and external, including national and international, research groups within the subject area and relevant interdisciplinary areas, etc., as well as by publishing and disseminating academic results within the subject area, both nationally and internationally
  • to disseminate knowledge to a wider circle of stakeholders, including the mass media
  • conduct the development of the subject area at the highest international level, including supervising PhD students within the subject area and by offering relevant research training courses
  • undertake research management within the subject area and to actively pursue the department's objective of increased external funding.

Your Qualifications:

Appointment as a professor requires research and teaching qualifications at such level as can be attained following a satisfactory period of appointment as associate professor within the subject area, but which could also be achieved otherwise.

In the assessment of applicants for the position as professor, the following will form part of the assessment criteria:

  • The applicant should document a high degree of original academic production at an international level within the subject area, and the applicant should document that he/she has contributed to the further development of the subject area
  • The applicant should document publication in/with leading national and international journals/publishers and document experience with presentation of his/her research for peers within the subject area at leading international conferences
  • The applicant should document a research plan or considerations about further development of the subject area, including in relation to the interaction between Danish general and special criminal law
  • The applicant should document significant teaching and examination qualifications in the subject area
  • The applicant should document the ability to perform research management and, where appropriate, other management functions, for example the ability to enter into and build a strong research environment
  • The applicant should fulfil the other qualifications required in the job advertisement, including documentation of interest in or plans to contribute to obtaining external funding
As a result of the subject area's strong connection to practical legal life, it will also be positively included in the assessment if the applicant has experience from the legal sector and/or has participated in pre-legislative work.

Employment as professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of AU’s compulsory supervision course as well as the course Blended Learning. If you have not completed the courses prior to employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a five-year period.
