The National Centre for Register-based Research (NCRR), Business and Social Sciences at Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for one or more positions as a Professor in Psychiatric Epidemiology and as a Professor in Statistical Genetics, respectively.  The positions are to be filled by 1 January 2025, but can be flexible subject to mutual agreement.

Professorship in Psychiatric Epidemiology or Statistical Genetics

The appointee is expected to establish and lead an independent research group in Psychiatric Epidemiology or Statistical Genetics. More specifically, the appointee is expected to work on combining genomic and epidemiological data in models related to the causes and consequences of mental disorders. We expect the applicant to work closely with bioinformaticians, statistical geneticists, epidemiologists, data analysts, clinicians and visiting researchers based at the National Centre for Register-based research. In particular, we are looking for researchers interested in combining evidence from epidemiology (e.g. data available from Danish registers) and genetics (e.g. polygenic risk scores) and participate in developing the field of translational psychiatric epidemiology. For position(s) in Statistical genetics we furthermore expect researchers interested in driving innovation and methods development.

The positions will be based at the National Centre for Register-based Research (NCRR) at Aarhus University. NCRR is an interdisciplinary research center and a leading international research centre in psychiatric epidemiology. The applicant is also expected to collaborate both with researchers at NCRR, researchers at other departments across the university, as well as researchers nationally and internationally.

The working language at the department is English, but the appointee should be able to teach in Danish after 4 years of employment.

An experienced researcher with collaborative skills

We seek internationally competitive researchers with an excellent academic track-record in psychiatric epidemiology and/or statistical genetics. The applicants are expected to have a solid documented experience with register-based research, in particular psychiatric research based on individual-level data. Prior experience with interdisciplinary research is an advantage. The applicant must document good capabilities in dissemination and fundraising and excellent collaborative skills as demonstrated through a significant number and quality of international publications. We also expect the candidate to have a proven record of obtaining significant research funding. The candidate is expected to have teaching experience and experience in supervising graduate students or other relevant management experience. Applicants must present their work plan and strategy for a research program.

Your qualifications

You must have a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications.

We expect you to have documented research qualifications at a high level in psychiatric epidemiology and/or statistical genetics, and also a strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals. You should also have a proven record of obtaining significant research funding, and the ability to write and speak English fluently.

We would like you to have following experience:

  • Experience in teaching, supervision, and leading research groups.
  • Experience in communication of research to broader audiences
  • Experience in international research collaboration and networking

Applicants should present their future research avenues and visions for an independent research group, as well as how they plan to obtain funding. Qualifications in teaching will be evaluated, and the applicants are encouraged to describe how they would like to contribute to teaching in the future.

A research environment at a high international level

The NCRR has a strong international position and track record in population-based psychiatric research. We are experienced collaborators and colleagues from around the world, offering competent feedback and support in an informal research environment at a high international level. Our work environment is important to us, and we have a variety of social events, including Friday cake gatherings and social dinners.
