We are seeking for enthusiastic new colleagues as a postdoc in the field of Power Electronics with strong interest in industrial applications and cooperation to join Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE) at the SDU campus in Sønderborg.

The centre has currently approximately 30 faculty members including senior (full and associate professors), junior (assistant professors and postdocs), PhDs, and support staff. The task portfolio of the postdoc will be linked to one main project and several smaller projects within CIE. CIE is embedded in a powerhouse in electronics, which includes researchers and developers at universities and industries on both sides of the Danish-German border. CIE is a new initiative striving for high quality and great impact of its research, innovation, and education. Central to achieving this objective is access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaborations with industries.
The aim of the position is to build strong knowledge and competencies within the field of power electronics especially in the fields of motor integrated drives, power to X, advanced power electronic simulation or control and reliability of modern power devices.
Job Description (position 1: Design and development of power electronic converter)
- You will conduct research in the field of power electronics with focus on one of the fields mentioned above.
- You will do research on various power converter topologies suitable for electrolyzer applications using wide bandgap (SiC/GaN) devices.
- You will use advanced tools for power electronic system optimization.
- You will do research and development on hardware design striving for the highest power density by considering all related subsystems (gate driver, cooling, power semiconductors capacitors, load).
- You will apply simulation and design tools, build demonstrators, and verify your simulation by experimental measurements.
- You will do research on power electronic setups for optimizing the production of fuels from electrical sources.
- You will participate in planning, execution, and documentation of projects with industrial partner.
- You will be involved in the daily supervision of PhD, master’s and bachelor’s students that perform research on similar topic.
- You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
- You will assist in teaching activities.
Job Description (position 2: Control of BLDC/PMSM machines)
- You will conduct research in the field of power electronics with focus on one of the fields mentioned above.
- You will do research on various control of power converter for multiphase PMSM motor and/or BLDC motor
- You will use advanced tools for controller design with high sampling frequency.
- You will do research and development on control algorithms (vector control, scalar control, six-step control, energy-based control, model predictive control).
- You will apply simulation and design tools, build demonstrators, and verify your simulation by experimental measurements.
- You will do research on power electronic setups for electric drives.
- You will participate in planning, execution, and documentation of projects with industrial partner.
- You will be involved in the daily supervision of PhD, master’s and bachelor’s students that perform research on similar topic.
- You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
- You will assist in teaching activities.
Job Description (position 3: Control of DC-DC converter)
- You will conduct research in the field of power electronics with focus on one of the fields mentioned above.
- You will do research on various control of DC-DC power converter
- You will use advanced tools for controller design with high sampling frequency.
- You will do research and development on control algorithms (current mode control, voltage mode control, advanced model predictive control).
- You will apply simulation and design tools, build demonstrators, and verify your simulation by experimental measurements.
- You will do research on power electronic setups for testing converters.
- You will participate in planning, execution, and documentation of projects with industrial partner.
- You will be involved in the daily supervision of PhD, master’s and bachelor’s students that perform research on similar topic.
- You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
- You will assist in teaching activities.
Profile and Requirements
- You have a PhD degree in Power Electronics or related fields.
- You have experience in design, development, and control of power converters using WBG devices.
- You have experience in hardware design and measurements.
- You have experience with DSP and/or FPGA used for power electronics applications.
- You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the field of power electronic devices, reliability, gate drivers electrical engineering and simulation.
- You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
- You are interested in a longer-term commitment in a growing research group, and you are willing to work in close cooperation with industry.
- You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
- A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus.

Conditions of employment
Appointment as postdoctoral researcher is temporary and for an initial 2-year period. Prolongation is possible depending on available funding. The preferred starting date is from 1 May 2025.
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level at the time of employment.
