DMI is a leading European developer and producer of remote sensing products, including Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and Ice Surface Temperature (IST) products for the high latitudes. The satellite-based products are critical for understanding the effects of climate change and are important inputs to weather and ocean models. Most of the work is carried out in projects financed by EU’s Copernicus program, ESA and EUMETSAT, and the Danish National Center for Climate Research (NCKF).

About the job You will be part of the NCKF Satellite and the Arctic unit, where you will work on producing daily SST and IST gap free products and participate in the general SST/IST activities within the Copernicus Marine Service project. Finally, you will contribute writing scientific publications about the results.

  • Maintain and evolve the production of SST/IST satellite products within the Copernicus Marine Service project.
  • Set up automatic monitoring and validation procedures of the CMEMS products
  • Maintain and update documentation about the products
  • Analyze and perform reprocessing and regular updates to the products, including Ocean Monitor Indicators.
  • Improve satellite SST/IST retrieval products in the high latitudes within the Ocean and Sea Ice-SAF (OSI-SAF) project.
  • Assist with the Sea Ice Concentration activities within OSI-SAF
  • Present results at scientific conferences and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals.
About you Qualifications and experience

  • Msc. or PhD degree in geophysics, engineering or similar within the field of remote sensing
  • Experience with satellite surface temperature processing and sea ice concentration.
  • Experience with validation of satellite products with in situ data.
  • Involvement in Copernicus service projects
  • Experience working on Linux and HPC systems and shell programming.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python and Fortran.
