Research Engineer for Engine Process Measurement

MAN Energy Solutions is on the lookout for a highly motivated and curious Research Engineer to join our team. As a key player in our mission to decarbonize shipping, you will be responsible for conducting performance and process measurements, analyzing and validating data to drive continuous improvement.

You will play an important role in: 

• Collaborate and Innovate: Work across the organization, fostering teamwork and innovation.
• Global Testing: Conduct measurements and validate data during test campaigns, both externally and onboard vessels worldwide.
• Share Insights: Ensure testing outcomes are communicated effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop Expertise: Maintain and develop measuring methods and equipment, including calibration and certification.
• Support Compliance: Assist in the retrofit amendment process to ensure test results meet industry standards.

As Research Engineer you will be accountable for preparing adequate equipment, as well as setting up prior to commencing test campaigns. When travelling you will be part of a skilled engineering team, all contributing within their respective specialist areas in order to optimize and develop the engine process. You can expect to be travelling up to 90 days per year in the span of 4-5 trips per year with a duration of 1-4 weeks, in our various locations with licensees in East Asia and onboard vessels in service worldwide.

We imagine that you have:

• Educational Background: Degree in Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Programming Skills: Basic knowledge of Python, C++, or similar languages is a plus.
• Maritime Experience: Experience in the maritime sector, particularly in shipping and physical testing.
• Communication Skills: Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, with strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Curiosity and Drive: A natural interest in challenging and developing yourself.
• Planning Skills: Strong planning abilities, both technically and in managing test activities.
• International Experience: Experience collaborating with partners in China, South Korea, and/or Japan is preferred.

You will become part of the Engine Process Development department, which is part of Two-Stroke R&D. We are responsible for developing our engine platform, as well as challenging the current technologies and fuel types to help decarbonize the maritime industry. The group you will be part of consists of 14 colleagues, all specialized within measuring technology. Teamwork characterizes the group and social events are frequently hosted, contributing to an inclusive culture.
