Senior Acoustic Development Engineer
Hottinger, Brüel & Kjær is seeking a senior acoustic development engineer for our R&D department in Sound & Vibration Transducers located in Virum, Denmark. As our new senior acoustic development engineer, you will contribute to our future transducer designs and join our dedicated Sensor team, well known for its high-quality designs over the years.
If you enjoy coming up with solutions to challenging problems, you will be happy to know that as our new acoustic development engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing Hottinger, Brüel & Kjær's new transducers for within sound, securing our leading position in the market. On a daily basis, you will collaborate closely with other team members possessing expertise in acoustics, electroacoustics, vibration, analogy electronics, construction, calibration, and standardization.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the development of acoustic concepts and technologies for our transducers, ensuring high-performance solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Drive the theoretical and technical aspects of acoustics, becoming the professional responsible within the field over time.
Design and optimize acoustic components and systems through simulations, modelling, and experimental validation.
Develop and implement testing methodologies for acoustic performance evaluation.
Support product and process engineering by providing acoustic expertise and ensuring manufacturability.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including acoustic specifications, test procedures, and design guidelines.
Mentor and guide junior engineers fostering knowledge sharing within the team.
Collaborate with vendors and external partners worldwide to source and implement innovative acoustic solutions.
Professional Qualifications
You hold a degree in acoustic or physical engineering or equivalent, at minimum master level, and possess extensive experience in translating theory into practice while passing on knowledge to your colleagues. You have at least ten years of work experience. English is the corporate language, but proficiency in spoken and written Danish is also essential for success in this role , as the team frequently interacts with Danish production. Additionally, you should have experience in the following areas:
Knowledge
Strong theoretical and practical understanding of acoustics, including transducer design, acoustic modelling, and signal processing.
Intuitive grasp of how acoustics interact with mechanical components, tooling, and tolerances – focusing on the overall system rather than isolated parts.
Background in one or more of the following areas is advantageous:
Acoustic materials and their impact on performance (e.g., damping materials, membranes, enclosures).
Fine mechanics (0.1–20 mm) and its influence on acoustic behavior.
Material knowledge, particularly in metals, ceramics, and surface treatments relevant to acoustic applications.
Insight into various manufacturing processes, with the ability to design for manufacturability, assembly, and function.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in IT systems related to data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience with acoustic simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, MATLAB, or similar) is a strong advantage.
