Are you an IT/bioinformatics expert in public health, with a strong interest in overseeing and implementing research-based IT systems, bioinformatics tools, and leading other technology initiatives across the institute? We’re looking for a colleague here at the Department of Bioinformatics to continue existing initiatives in this area and leading future processes.
Your new role – is this a good opportunity for me?
In this role as a bioinformatician, you will design and deploy Linux-based High Performance Compute (HPC) systems to support public health initiatives at Statens Serum Institut, including collaborations with Computerome and the National Genome Center. You will be a stronghold in a team of system administrators, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems while meeting compliance and technical requirements. Your expertise will be vital in developing and troubleshooting bioinformatics pipelines, supporting EU-funded projects, and piloting generative AI systems. You will serve as a key technical liaison between the bioinformatics department, other IT groups, and external partners, ensuring robust, scalable solutions for research, surveillance and diagnostics.
About the work environment and your role in it
Your education, experience and personal qualifications
You have degree in bioinformatics, computer science, IT systems administration, or a related field and/or have equivalent experience working in these fields. Please note that your master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years 120 ECTS/2 FTE MSc + 180 ECTS/3 FTE BSc).

About the workplace and SSI
We are a family friendly workplace with a 37-hour working week incl. lunch break. In addition to this, we have an active sports association (IK-SERA) with exercise rooms, a staff association and an affiliated kindergarten. We are located in Copenhagen with good public transport options (bus and metro). This position is not remote, you’ll be expected to come to the office though we can offer flexible working conditions.
