PLAY A KEY ROLE IN MOLTEN SALT EXPERIMENTAL PROJECTS THAT DRIVE ADVANCEMENTS IN CLEAN ENERGY

At Seaborg Technologies we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced molten salt reactor we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and scalable technology that can make fossil fuels a thing of the past and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide millions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what inspires all of us every day.

Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn’t easy and requires a diverse team bringing together a range of talents and perspectives. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry from all over the world to develop technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.

This is your chance to become part of a collaborative research environment where you can chart an uncommonly diverse career and help change the world. You will be part of a dynamic team driving the development of prototypes and experimental setups. Seaborg’s work environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility, and personal growth but also demands flexibility.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Chemical Engineer to lead and support the design, construction, and execution of chemical engineering test rigs and prototype apparatus, including molten salt loops. You will be also involved in building, commissioning and decommissioning of experimental setups of varying scale, complexity, and scope. The knowledge gained is used to support materials and component selection and validate the design solutions of the molten salt reactor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Develop and execute experimental plans to create and test chemical process prototypes.

  • Design and procure standard components like instrumentation, sensors, heaters, valves, pumps.

  • Analyse chemical compositions, reactions, and performance characteristics of the experiments.

  • Build, operate, and troubleshoot lab and pilot-scale experiments.

  • Collaborate with specialists and technicians to develop and establish suitable assembly methods, tools, and routines for experiments that conform with relevant standards and ensure data validation.

  • Conduct risk assessment and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of design activities, lab work, and experimental results, providing recommendations for process improvements.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • You have a Bsc or MSc. in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or similar education.

  • You have 7+ years of experience in either an applied research institution or in an industrial sector linked to chemical processes.

  • You have experience with chemical technology scale-up from laboratory to relevant environment prototype scale.

  • You have experience in test rig design, procurement, assembly, and operations.

  • You can manage projects effectively, including planning, scheduling, communication, and resource allocation.

  • Experience with high-temperature chemistry and/or thermodynamic/kinetic studies is an advantage.

  • Experience with molten salt chemistry is an advantage.

PERSONAL COMPETENCES

  • You excel at problem-solving and thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments.

  • You take full ownership of responsibilities, driving initiatives forward with energy and a strong sense of accountability.

  • You are an effective communicator and active listener, skilled at understanding and aligning with stakeholder needs. Comfortable interacting with a diverse range of technical and non-technical colleagues.

  • You are analytical and have a strong eye for detail.

  • You are not afraid of challenges and drive finding the solutions while adhering to regulatory frameworks and organizational guidelines.
