(Senior) Scientist, Bioprocessing Development and Cardiomyocyte

The position
As a (Senior) Scientist, you will play a key role in supporting our CHF project by developing a robust and scalable process in stirred tank bioreactors. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Collaborating with the entire CHF research project team to translate protocol adaptations from simple suspension culture systems into bioreactors.
• Engaging in bioprocess development within the 200 ml to 1L scale to deliver a scalable and efficient process to our colleagues in CMC, who are responsible for final upscaling.
• Contributing to the running and development of the bioreactor platform in Cell Therapy Research related to CHF, with a special focus on expanding our capacity and lab space.
• Supervising 1-2 technicians and overseeing their daily work.
• Participating in relevant cross-functional forums to exchange knowledge and ensure close alignment of processes and equipment across the bioreactor platform in Cell Therapy R&D.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in bioengineering, bioprocessing, stem cell biology, or a related field, with at least 2-3 years of experience in mammalian cell culture development and cardiomyocyte differentiation within academia, biotech or the pharmaceutical industry. Alternatively, a master’s degree in the aforementioned fields, coupled with 5 years of similar industry experience.
• A strong understanding of cardiomyocyte differentiation from pluripotent stem cells and developmental biology of the heart.
• Practical experience in bioprocess development and developing scalable mammalian cell culture in stirred tank bioreactors.
• Familiarity with methodologies for process characterization and optimization.
• Experience in supervising technicians and/or students.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Additionally, you are highly motivated in translational science and possess a curiosity to drive stem cell-based therapies towards clinical application. You must be adept at maintaining an overview while focusing on essential details to facilitate data-driven decisions and ensure efficient project progression. As a team player, you are hardworking, collaborative, results-oriented, and possess strong communication skills. You thrive in an organized working routine and enjoy working in an international and fast-paced environment.

About the department
The Department of Cardiomyocyte Biology & Biomarkers is a dynamic team with a primary focus on developing cell therapies for the treatment of chronic heart failure, situated within the Research area as part of Cell Therapy R&D at Novo Nordisk. Our Cell Therapy R&D covers the entire R&D value chain, operating as an integrated unit, spanning from early research to GMP manufacturing and clinical development within the same organization. Based in Måløv, Denmark, our team comprises 4 scientists, 2 technicians, interns and master students.
