The position

We are seeking a Senior Software Architect for our Software department responsible for developing measurement systems with inputs from a broad range of sensor and signal types within sound & vibration, mechanical& structural.

‘The architect should help the department develop applications that belong to a bigger measurement system which also includesspecialised hardware (Sensors, DAQs), network components, cloud solutions etc.Most of our current applications are Windows applications but, we also work with Apps, cloud, etc. The Architect will together with other SW architectsbe responsible for the overall architecture of the applications and the interfaces between applications.Another important part of the job is to be a champion of quality and good software development practices within the department. 

In HBK we are continuously working to improve our existing products, creating new solutions to empower innovators across Automotive, Aerospace & Defence, Renewable Energies, Civil Engineering, Industrial applications. 

Primary responsibilities 

Executes a range of tasks across the full life cycle in line with agreed software development methodology, including and not limited to the following; and any other duties reasonably required from time to time:

Architecture 

  • Lead and facilitate the definition and development of product architectures.

  • Provide technical guidance and governance on product development and integration (e.g., by elaborating the system architecture; validating technology assumptions; evaluating and challenge the teams on implementation alternatives). 

  • Evaluate requests for changes and deviations from specifications and recommend actions.

  • Ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly. 

  • Manage trade-offs and balance functional and non-functional requirements for products. 

  • Coordinate target architecture across multiple products, in conjunction with appropriate stakeholders. 

  • Software design 

  • Design large or complex products and undertake impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs. 

  • Champion the importance and value of system design principles, patterns, and best practices. 

  • Lead design activities for strategic, large and complex products development programmes. 

  • Develop effective implementation strategies consistent with specified requirements, architectures and constraints. 

  • Adopt and adapt system design methods, tools and techniques as appropriate to enable delivery of target outcome. 

  • Review systems designs and ensure appropriate methods, tools and techniques are applied effectively. Make recommendations and assesses and manage associated risks. 

  • Software development 

  • Contribute to department policies, standards, and guidelines for software development and refactoring. 

  • Contribute to general software development activities based on specific needs and in agreement with teams, e.g., conducting code reviews; exploring technology choices during spikes; etc. The extent of direct involvement is variable pursuant to need. 

  • Quality, Testing and Nonfunctional Requirements (NFRs) 

  • Advocate for testing and quality. 

  • Define NFRs for products and ensure that the architecture supports them. Assist the ART in determining measures and mechanisms to safeguard and monitor NFRs. Planning 

  • Participate and contribute to planning events.

  • Follow agreed standards, applying appropriate techniques to elicit requirements. Provide constructive challenge to stakeholders as required to enable reliable planning.

  • Professional qualifications

    You have experience with SW architecture, preferably within Windows application development. You have experience from projects within new development, continuous improvement of existing products and support of legacy products. Furthermore we value the following qualifications:

  • Broad and deep knowledge and experience of software architecture methodologies, approaches and techniques.

  • Broad and deep knowledge of a range of software development and delivery life cycles, agile, iterative, waterfall, CI/CD, etc. 

  • Broad and deep knowledge of relevant applications, languages (primarily .NET and JavaScript), environments, systems software, packages, platforms. 

  • Proven successful delivery of working software in a dynamic and international environment 

  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills / mindset. 

  • Personal skills
