Software System Engineer for NORDUnet

To enhance our Service Operations and Engineering team, we are seeking an experienced Software System Engineer. A NORDUnet Software System Engineer is responsible for the daily operation of NORDUnet’s systems. These systems are crucial for providing the basis upon which NORDUnet services are delivered.

Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities will include:

Manage and monitor installed systems and infrastructure

Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools

Ensure seamless interoperation between systems through system integration

Develop operational procedures for the first line support team

Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

Monitor and test application performance, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate with developers to implement

solutions

Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies

Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and reduce manual intervention time

Participate in the design of information and operational support systems

Provide 2nd and 3rd level support

Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate has good experience or a skilled interest in the mentioned responsibilities. In addition, you need to:

Proven working experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux/Windows environments

Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks (., Apache, PHP, Python, NGINX, Systemd)

Experience with system integration and knowledge of virtualization and containerization (., Proxmox, Qemu, Docker, Podman)

Experience with monitoring systems and automation software (., Puppet, Ansible)

Experience with network management services and authentication services (., DNS, SAML2, OICD, Active Directory, LDAP)

Solid scripting skills (., shell scripts, Python, Go, Ruby)

You excel in dynamic technical environments, adapting swiftly to changing assignments and the latest technology, and are able to perform in a cross-country organization. You are fluent in Danish or Swedish and in addition English at professional working proficiency.
