to support our efforts in redox proteomics
to commence 1 May 2025, the position is time-limited until 31 December 2027.
Our research The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI) conducts research that seeks to explore and understand organ systems, pathology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. The Department is an important centre for research into basic and clinical science with the aim of improving diagnostics and patient therapies.
The Protein Oxidation Group led by Professor Michael Davies carries out research focused on understanding and characterizing the mechanisms and consequences of protein modification, a process known to be of major importance in cardiovascular disease as well as other human diseases associated with inflammation. We use a range of analytical, biochemical, molecular, cellular, animal and human studies to examine these processes, with an overall aim of understanding and preventing protein modification and tissue damage.
Your job You will join a multi-disciplinary research team working on the detection, identification and characterization of post-translational modifications on proteins and changes in native proteomes of isolated proteins, cells, animal and human tissue samples, with a particular emphasis on extracellular matrix and cardiovascular disease. Your tasks will be to be carry out proteomic analyses (by LC-MS) of samples, including sample preparation, running of samples, high-level data analysis, interpretation of results and writing of reports and papers.
You will also oversee the use and maintenance of the LC-MS machines, and contribute to the maintenance of the relevant facilities.
You will be expected to contribute to, and support, multiple ongoing research projects in the group as needed; induct and train new lab members; contribute to general floor activities; and support the principal investigator of the research group.
