The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a staff scientist. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in neuroscience and is affiliated to researchers working in the areas of system neuroscience and neuropharmacology with focus on rodent disease models.
Job Description • Perform stereotactic surgeries on rodents for implantation of optical fibers, cannulas or miniscopes.
• Conduct injections of viral vectors into specific brain regions.
• Execute behavioral tests to evaluate the effects of various interventions on rodents.
• Collaborate with research scientists and students about data collection and experimental design
• Teach students and postdocs surgical procedures and other related methods
• Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and data
• Genotyping
• Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and safety protocols.
• Point of contact with the veterinarians and the animal facility
• Collaboration with other technical and administrative staff in the department
Experience and Skills • The applicant must hold an animal experimentation license (equivalent to a FELASA certificate).
• Demonstrated experience with stereotactic surgeries, implantation of optical fibers and cannulas, virus injections, and behavioral testing of rodents.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of ethical guidelines and safety protocols for animal research.
• Experience with immunohistochemical stainings or other imaging techniques
• A loyal, helpful and collaborative mindset.
Qualifications An academic degree in human biology, neuroscience or alike is required. Solid and documented work experience from high quality academic and/or industrial laboratories is expected. The ability to efficiently work as part of a team is essential.
Employment conditions The position is a permanent position with start date May 1st, 2025. Working hours are 37 hours per week. the employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) at the level of academic employee. The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority). A salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications may be negotiated. Pension will be paid by the employer according to the terms stated in the respective collective agreements.
