The Department of Design, Media and Educational Science is looking for a dedicated student assistant to join the DIEM research project for three months (from January 6, 2025, to April 6, 2025), with the possibility of extension. The position involves approximately 10 hours of work per week. As a student assistant, your main responsibilities will include assisting the DIEM researchers in their data collection and analysis about entertainment practices in social media (Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube, X…) as well as participate in project meetings.
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications
The student assistant will conduct data collection from social media platforms using web scraping tools, ensuring quality and consistency, as well as organizing and cleaning datasets for cross-platform analysis. Tasks also include performing basic network and sentiment analysis, contributing to visualizations and network mapping with tools like Gephi or Tableau, and documenting workflows while assisting with summaries and reports to communicate project insights. Candidates should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Data Science, Media Studies, or a related field, with familiarity in data handling (e.g., JSON, CSV), analytical and programming skills (Python, R…), and an interest in social media research and working with APIs. Prior experience with similar methods will be prioritized, and strong independence and initiative are essential, as the candidate will work autonomously on data tasks. Attention to detail and willingness to learn various analysis and visualization tools are also important.
DIEM - Digital Entertainment Machine is a research project that explores how ordinary people use digital entertainment in their daily lives. The project is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF), it runs from 2023-2026 and is led by Professor Susana Tosca ([email protected]).
