Student software engineer

This is a part-time (~20 hours/week), on-site position based in Copenhagen.

We are looking for a student to help us build our world-class, most professional video marketing platform. We are looking for people with prior working experience making software outside of classes. Maybe you have worked as a software engineer before? Maybe you have a pet project that you are proud of?

The Role

Be curious, keen on learning, take ownership of your work and we will support your growth to where you would like to take your career. It’s okay not to know everything if you want to learn.

You will be helping us build new product functionality, getting a chance to jump around the full stack, and work on cloud-native applications that power our video suite.

What could “build new product functionality” mean?

• Implementing a new feature in our suite of video-centric products. Work with a product manager and the rest of the team to understand the “why” of the work and deliver functionality that makes the lives of our customers’ easier.
• Improving existing functionality and/or replanting a piece of existing functionality. You would have to analyze existing product functionality, and move it to TypeScript/Node.js. Being supported by the rest of the team.
• Working on our Kubernetes/AWS setup, if you’re interested in the ops part of the stack.
• Getting your ideas in. You will have heard about approaches and technologies we have never thought about: help us improve how we do things.

We are looking for somebody with prior experience in the field, somebody who can take initiative and deliver a small project on their own. What do we mean by that?

• You actively reach out when you need help when you can’t solve a problem on your own.
• You ask questions about things you don’t understand. (There are no stupid questions, seriously!)

• You are an MSc student in your first year

You will be working on a team of four people (including yourself) operating independently within our engineering department of ten people. We will be there to help you achieve your goals, learn and answer any and all questions you might have.

• PostgreSQL

As TwentyThree has existed for some 15 years, big parts of our software are built on a different stack. Most of our product has been built using Tcl, and we have smaller parts of our system written in Python and Go.

While Tcl has been the backbone of our codebase, it is time to move on, and we are currently in the midst of "replanting" our product from Tcl-based stack to a TypeScript-based stack.

We deploy our services to Kubernetes, and we run on AWS. All our infrastructure is encoded in Terraform.

We take pride in our platform, and we keep iterating on it. Our production runs on top of Kubernetes in AWS. We store data in Postgresql, Redis, S3 and we exchange messages via RabbitMQ when needed.

TwentyThree is an office-first company, and while there is some flexibility, we believe in working together from the office.

TwentyThree is also a very international and social place. The team currently counts ~15 nationalities, and people often stay to have a drink or play ping pong after hours.

Once a year, we go to a retreat in an exciting location. After all the lockdowns we have been to: Stockholm (Sandhamn), Gøthenburg and Bornholm.
