Who are we: Work at the Centre for Early Childhood Cognition studies the origins and development of social cognition in babies and young children. We investigate, among others, how early social cognition such as perspective taking contributes to the development of toddlers’ episodic memory development. Another, related topic of interest is parent-child interactions and how these relate to social cognition. Currently, in the Memory project in a longitudinal study with a cohort of over 100 families, we invite families in our lab several times between their 12 - 36 month of age, allowing us to follow infants’ socio-cognitive development across time. The project uses a combination of techniques that include behavioral approaches (e.g. how long babies look at different social events shown to them on a screen, who they choose to interact with, and how they participate in interactions with their caregiver) and baby-friendly brain imaging approaches, which enable us to see what’s happening in the brain at different ages.

We are seeking student research assistants for project-related tasks mainly related to data collection, but also potentially including analyses, communication with families, and other administrative tasks. Exact hours depend strongly on the families’ availability each week, testing schedule will be coordinated with the candidate in advance, but some flexibility in schedule due to cancellations and adjustments to families’ schedules is necessary. Details will be discussed and agreed on with the candidate prior to employment as well as revisited throughout the position.

Work tasks

  • Assisting with data collection during the families’ visits to the center, including behavioral, screen-based and neuroimaging tasks; interacting with the infants and families during the session
  • Helping with data saving, processing, and administrative tasks related to the testing sessions
  • If applicable, assisting with processing data such as video coding, questionnaire data etc.

Qualifications

  • Keen interest in the field of social cognitive development and empirical research with toddlers
  • Prior work experience with children and/or research in cognitive development is a plus
  • Good ability to communicate in English and Danish
  • Aptitude for attention to detail
  • Flexibility in the approach to tasks
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and work cooperatively with the team
