Videographer & Digital Storyteller in IMS' Communications Unit

NB: Part-time, for parental leave cover. (15 hr/wk, for 5 months).

IMS at a glance

IMS is a Copenhagen-based international NGO that supports independent media across four continents to produce and disseminate good journalism that conveys facts and analyses, uncovers wrongdoing and holds the powerful to account. We work with partners in countries affected by conflict, humanitarian crisis, political transition and authoritarian rule. Founded in 2001, today IMS is a leading actor in the field of media development worldwide with programmes and activity in some forty countries.  

Job summary

At IMS, we use video and other digital storytelling methods as a key mean to communicate the importance and impact of our work to our audiences. This position requires you to produce powerful stories using video and other digital formats in collaboration with colleagues from our communications unit, fundraising unit and regional departments.

Key functions and responsibilities

• Handle all stages of video production, from conceptualisation and planning to filming, editing, and subtitling, always ensuring a high-quality end product.
• Create powerful graphics that grab the attention of our social media followers.

Examples of possible task

• Creating a visual narrative about the conditions for women journalists in Afghanistan and IMS’ effort to support them.
• Working with our Africa department to illustrate how funding from a key donor has helped strengthen our media partners in Mozambique during an ongoing political crisis.
• Helping colleagues in our fundraising unit tell a video-based story around the role of free media in humanitarian emergencies.
• Filming a public event with a visiting journalist from Gaza.

Qualifications

Mandatory:

• Minimum five years of relevant working experience.
• A proven track record of creating compelling video content for a variety of purposes, audiences and platforms to the highest professional standard.
• Comprehensive experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and InDesign.
• Ability to work with tight deadlines.
• Excellent command of English.

Desirable

• A good understanding of IMS’s remit and/or other human rights-related areas of work.
• Experience from the NGO or non-profit sector.
• Experience working in an international environment and a corresponding level of cultural sensitivity.
• Experience working with or supporting fundraising efforts.
• Good command of written and spoken Danish.

Formalities

• The position is part-time, 15 hrs/week, and will expire on 31st of August. 
• Starting date is 1st March or as soon as possible after.
• The position is situated within the IMS communications unit. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Communications.
• The position is based at IMS’ HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark, and requires weekly physical presence with possibility to work from home.
• Salary is commensurate with experience and IMS policies.
• The position might require limited travel.
